Is Family Heritage Life insurance a scam? This guy approached us to see if we wanted to buy this "cancer treatment" policy that the above named insurance company is offering. Just wondering if anyone has heard of such a company and knows anything about them. Thanks.

Selling Life Insurance for Family Heritage Life? I put my resume in on hotjobs.com as a sales Representative.... mainly because I wanted to get into Pharm. Sales, but I received an e-mail today from Family Heritage Life asking me to come in for an interview. For one-- it seems too easy, so I'm wondering if this is legit or not. It gives me a time and a place for the interview and I know exactly where the place is and it gives me the name of the person interviewing me. And it gives me a list of what they offer ($40-$60K 1st year potential (No Experience), $75-$150K 1st year potential (Management Experience), Sales and Management bonuses , Stock ownership, Lifetime residual income with vesting after 2 years).... In my job hunting experience... I know it couldn't be this easy. Perhaps though they're going to interview all KINDS of people. I DO have a degree but it is in Biology... so I dunno. Is it worth my time and effort or should I continue searching other places?
family heritage life insurance emailed me about an interview...? they say that the entry income is 50-65 k a year. but its a sales job. does anyone work there or know anyone that works there? should i go to the interview?
What role do your heritage and family traditions play in your life today? Can someone explain what this question means, giving examples..please. Thanks in advance :)

What is the definition of a people who share a social and cultural heritage passed on though generations? What would you say is the definition of a People who share a social and cultural heritage that is passed on through the generations usually results in distinct patterns of language, family, religion, life style and recreation?

I want to get a tattoo of my family coat of arms or family crest because i'm very proud of my german heritage and family is the most important thing in my life. If you were to create a quilt of your life by visually representing it, what would you draw? Would you draw stars for hope, a cross, people, computers, things, or what that would describe your family heritage or traditions when all the colors and designs used for your quilt must have meaning. Thanks in advance and have a wonderful day.
What is a good site/place to start looking up your heritage/family tree/ancestors? I know that there are all these family tree sites, and yadda-yadda...but I want to do a good examination, maybe even find out if I have ancestors of other races. If anyone can leave a comment telling me a good, legit, informative(hopefully professional) site or a place to start(other then talking to family, I've done that, and I really want to go back. I mean REALLY). Maybe tell me if you have any experience with this(don't have too, don't want to invade your personal life) but I'd like to get some feed back. I want to try and to find more about my ancestors/heritage then just we have a lot of European in us. Like, other possible links to ancestors of different races/countries. Thanks for your answer if you leave one! :)
do you want The truth on Hillary's family heritage? "Before I was born, a man named Sir Edmund Hillary became famous for being the first person to climb Mount Everest. My father named me after him as a symbolic message that I could achieve anything I wanted in life... that I could climb ANY mountain..." -Hillary Clinton explains in 1996 how she got her name; CounterClintonLibrary.com. She was born five years before Edmund Hillary scaled Everest. The year she was born, he was an unknown beekeeper. The truth on Hillary's feelings about Americans living between the coasts... "Jesus, Bill, I know you've got all these redneck relatives out there..." -Confronting her husband when it's discovered that one of his long-lost relatives is a member of the KKK, circa 1993. Bill and Hillary: The Marriage p. 273, by Christopher Anderson, William Morrow & Co. 1999.

I am trying to find out about my heritage, my family tree. I know I am Irish, Black,Cherokee but I learned I? Bohemian also, does anyone know about this culture, or could lead me to find out what last names mean, if it is IRish, German etc. Also tell me about the Bohemian culture. I know I look Latin and Asian because of my eyes. We love latin foods also... that is all I have really cooked and ate most of my life. Please help Thank you in advance
How do I teach my child about Latin culture? Originally my husband was supposed to teach our son Spanish and about Ecuadoran culture. Unfortunately he is several cards short of a full deck. I still want my son to know about his heritage though, his family lives across the country so I can't rely on them for everything. How do I go about making sure he knows Spanish and about Latin history? I have good vocabulary but I don't always conjugate things right.
I'm starting to become more curious about my Black heritage. Would a trip to America be a good idea? My father is White, and my mother was Black, but she passed away when I was really young, so I never became close with her or her side of the family. I live in England and the Black population isn't that high, and the majority of my friends are White. I feel a little sad that I don't seem to fit in with the Black community. Part of my mum's family lives in America, and I would like to meet them, but I'm a little nervous. What if they don't accept me?
I feel like I don't belong to my family? My mom has acquired schizophrenia and anxiety disorders after her divorce with my dad. I remember at one point she completely disconnected from the World and turned to alcohol. She almost drank her self to death. She was completely crazy and there was no way I could talk to her. Even today that she's better and supports me more but is 400 miles away from me, she sometimes constantly texts me delusional sayings and I feel it's impossible to talk to her sometimes. My dad had part of his frontal cortex removed and as a consequence becomes angry over the smallest thing. He gets extremely difficult to talk to and if you get close to him, it can be hard to maintain a mature conversation because he's completely immature. I understand where he's coming from but it's almost impossible for me to "connect" with him on a family level because he just doesn't know how to. To top it off, his mother (my "grandmother") comes around allot and takes advantage of that fact. I am not even kidding, I know that sounds silly but it's true. She influences him to think the way she thinks it's right. She tells him to yell at me and "put me straight" even though I am a college student and know how to fend for myself. She wants everything in his house to go under her rules and expects everyone to submit to her will. She yells when things don't go her way and has absolutely no sympathy for anyone but herself. At one point I've given up on her after she screamed at me and called me stupid and other names just because I was "in her way" when I was washing the dishes last summer. I didn't want to have anything to do with her. I felt degraded and like I couldn't trust her. And now my dad acts like it never happened and expects me to conciliate with her when I know she's just going to act the same way all over again. The rest of my family is in middle Europe. I've subconsciously lied to many people about my heritage and my true family life because I've been so embarrassed about it and felt like I'd be neglected by people if they knew the truth. Allot of people would also judge and assume I was the problem. Most might also think I was feeling sorry for myself publicly. I've even lied to my ex before we became serious. He wants to get back together but I can't gather the will to tell him the truth about it. I don't see a good future that way. I just don't know what to do. the thing is my dad's mom is on the verge of leaving this planet and he has difficulties taking care of himself sometimes. I feel sorry for him all the time but when he starts screaming at me and arguing with me for nothing, I feel like i hate him and never want to be close to him again. I'm ambivalent in my feelings and confused over all of it. Should I just stay in my college apartment with my roommates and not come back? even if he might be alone and might need help? i feel like the more i am around them, the higher the chance I might plunge down to their level...and that scares the shit out of me...
I've grown up my whole life as a plain amish boy...when i reached the age of 15 i broke away from my family... now, i miss their touch and love in my life....should i live as my old amish self or continue my rebellous life againt my heritage??
What do you want to do with your life and see in this world before you die? I would love to travel to the Galapagos Islands, visit all 50 states in the US and travel to as many World Heritage Sites as I can http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Heritage_Sites. Raise a family, get my pilot's license and finally get back to learning French (took a class many years ago). What do you want to do with your life and see in this world before you die?
My family and others want me to be proud of my heritage, but I don't want to is that wrong? I don't want to talk some stupid Native American language, they force me too, they talk on and on and BLAH BLAH BLAH! I don't care, why can't they just leave it at that, is it wrong that I want to live my own life?
Why do Some Adoptive Parents Feel Threatened when their Adult Child Searches for their First Family? Why can't adoptive parents be secure enough in the relationship they have with their child and allow them to know the whole truth about the beginning of their life. Their roots. Their heritage. Lucy S I take exception to you referring to my mother as a drug addict etc etc. What a load of BS. You can't know that. Nobody can - not without the truth. And the truth of their origin is the birthright of everyone
I need help with my Introduction because my teacher told i need a broad opening so plase checked for me thanks? Check my Introduction and thesis please thank you. Here In the story of "Everyday Use," By Alice Walker, the quilt is an example of the concept of history, which represents the pieces of dresses of the grandma used to wear. The reason the mother gave the quilt to Dee is because she is more responsible. So Maggie's concept of family heritage is much more personal, because Maggie is more responsible in life because appreciates the memory of her grandmother and cherishes the tradition of her own family.
How can I learn about my Polish heritage? I was born in Poland but I was adopted and moved to the U.S. when I was 2. I like my life in the US and love my parents but I sometimes want to move back to Poland and see what it's like. I miss my "real" parents and want to learn about my heritage and see whats life like there. I only know that my last name is Kryjewski and not even sure if I spelled it right. I've been begging my parents who adopted me to take a visit but they said no. I don't know why they say no but I want to learn about Poland. At least the language would be a start. I just want to know how I can be connected to Poland and find out where I'm from. My parents just don't tell me for some reason. How can I learn about my Polish heritage, family over there, and language. Anyone know how I can do this. I also want to know why my parents are keeping quiet about it.
Just an adoption question out of interest. A family members recent adoption has got me thinking.? They are adopting a baby girl from Vietnam, she will be 9 months when she arrives home. They have been talking about the ways in which they're going to teach her about her cultural heritage, and her customs, beliefs etc. l think that's great, but it made me wonder, isn't your child's culture the one which you provide for them? After all, children aren't born with a culture, but into one. l can understand what they mean, but personally l would look at it that my way of life would become my child's way of life, as in every family. What do others think, how did you approach your adoption, etc? Thanks in advance.
I need some help with my diversity and culture essay? Being different is the essence of humanity. Therefore it should never be the source of hatred or conflict. The answer to being different is to respect it. There in lies a fundamental principal to peace: respect for diversity. We are all different yet want the same things for each other: to be respected by others. We should respect everyone that is different from ourselves and respect their beliefs, traditions, values and opinions. In some ways, all these things put together makes us unique in who we are. Therefore we need to embrace our differences and uniqueness. This is my own experience with diversity. I grew up in a small community in Southern Texas where everyone interacted with one another regardless of our ethnic background. The community where I lived was of individuals that came from Spanish backgrounds. I came from a mixed background. I have a mexican mother and my father is black. Half of our family and heritage is Mexican and my life has been spent in the sole care of my mexican mother. There were many times when I would have conversations with individuals who could speak Spanish, and they would hear me speak the language and they would comment on how I could speak Spanish really well. As we knew how to speak the same language, we already knew that there was something in common. I always assumed that anyone who spoke Spanish were of Mexican heritage. This is where I admit that I was wrong. I began to learn about the diversity of the Spanish heritage and learned that it is not only people of Mexican background who know the language, but so many other nationalities as well. As I became more and more curious of the backgrounds of people who spoke the language I know, I began asking people where they were from. I would always go eat at this Spanish restaurant called “Cinco De Mayo”, with my family. One day, there was this family sitting right next to us and I overheard the woman speaking Spanish so I automatically assumed she was from Mexico. But because I am so inquisitive about learning where people are from, I turned around and asked her where she was from. As it turned out she was from Honduras. This experience helped broaden my perspective about the diversity among individuals of Latino heritage. I later learned that there are many individuals that speak Spanish but where they come from is different. Places such as Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Cuba, Panama, and Dominican Republican are where the Spanish language is most commonly used. Each place is familiar with the same language but our values, traditions, music and food are different. We all just want to live in peace with each other and be respected for our differences and be accepted by others. I believe that we all can get along with each other as long as we are willing to have an open mind in learning new things about people different from ourselves. However the world would be a more accepting place for everyone if we all came together and accept our differences. We all have something in us that wants to be seen by others and we should be open to the idea of sharing our lives with others. Our individuality and the person we are inside is what makes each and everyone of us interesting and diverse in our unique ways.
What is the Japanese family crest for the name "Fujiwara"? I am trying to find out what the Japanese crest is for the family name "Fujiwara"? I am getting conflicting information. I know that there are multiple branches with different crests such as the Peony but Im not sure from what branch my family is. Wisteria seems to be the most common crest I find online for the name Fujiwara. If I dont know what branch my family comes from, would using the Wisteria crest be acceptable? This has to be accurate as it is going to be part of a family heritage tattoo and will be on my body for life!
Family tree-Japanese heritage? Ok- I am part Japanese- mom/dad split before i was born, and mom won't talk about him still (now deceased). I am in my early 30's). I have no one to ask any questions- all i know is that my paternal grndmthr followed my grnfthr (american soldier) here after the war- they ended up with 4 boys + 3 girls before splitting. Only my Aunt Aiko (deceased) had a Japanese name- the rest have american names. I have one photo albulm that was my fathers. Most of it is here in the US, but some older photos of my grandmother and her family are in the back. on the back of the photos is Japanese writing, but no clues. Most are photos of my grndmthr, usually with other women, in kimono on a stage looking as if they are posing mid dance. The rest are indistinct photos of what looks like a beach, but the foreground is indistinct so the faces are in shadow (they are all dressed up in these too) . Can anyone who either lives in Japan or has been there tell me anything about where I might begin to look for information about these places or where i might be able to start my search? I know it's not much to go on, but it's all I've got. Up until recently I didn't have a real desire to know (my name is Danni, and you would not believe how many time I heard "Daniel-son, wax on, wax-off" and every other joke) because of the teasing I got. So I'm a bit late to the party as they say. Any advice or help would be much appreciated. Bluemoon- I have none of that information- there is no one living to answer my questions, and since my dad eventually lived in foster care no one can give me any of his information since he is not listed on my birth certificate. If I had any of that info, I would contact someone, but since I don't I thought I'd try here. My grandmother's birthday? I don't even know her name. I never met any of that side of the family save for one aunt who died when i was 6, and I was too young to know to ask any of the important questions. I have done the ancestory.com and web searches for any remaining family but haven't gotten anything back.

My family lives in Greece, and they don't speak English so they can't help me. Anyone know a good place to learn the language and about Greek traditions? You are amazing! Thank you so much!
How do you feel about the LDS's proclamation on the family.? The Family: A Proclamation to the World We, the First Presidency and the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children. All human beings—male and female—are created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny. Gender is an essential characteristic of individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose. In the premortal realm, spirit sons and daughters knew and worshipped God as their Eternal Father and accepted His plan by which His children could obtain a physical body and gain earthly experience to progress toward perfection and ultimately realize their divine destiny as heirs of eternal life. The divine plan of happiness enables family relationships to be perpetuated beyond the grave. Sacred ordinances and covenants available in holy temples make it possible for individuals to return to the presence of God and for families to be united eternally. The first commandment that God gave to Adam and Eve pertained to their potential for parenthood as husband and wife. We declare that God’s commandment for His children to multiply and replenish the earth remains in force. We further declare that God has commanded that the sacred powers of procreation are to be employed only between man and woman, lawfully wedded as husband and wife. We declare the means by which mortal life is created to be divinely appointed. We affirm the sanctity of life and of its importance in God’s eternal plan. Husband and wife have a solemn responsibility to love and care for each other and for their children. “Children are an heritage of the Lord” (Psalm 127:3). Parents have a sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs, and to teach them to love and serve one another, observe the commandments of God, and be law-abiding citizens wherever they live. Husbands and wives—mothers and fathers—will be held accountable before God for the discharge of these obligations. The family is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan. Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity. Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities. By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families. Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children. In these sacred responsibilities, fathers and mothers are obligated to help one another as equal partners. Disability, death, or other circumstances may necessitate individual adaptation. Extended families should lend support when needed. We warn that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God. Further, we warn that the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets. We call upon responsible citizens and officers of government everywhere to promote those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit of society. Lɑbgʀʀl - Find me one quote from an LDS leader who told it's members to not have anything to do with family who left the church or was excommunicated. I love my anti-Mormon siblings and we hang out all the time. THE MIGHTY RA-- Plenty of people. I work for a company that has homes for mentally handicapped people. Some people just dump off their mentally handicapped family there and won't visit them or anything. They don't even call them or send them a letter for Christmas. It's pretty sad. Mrs. Nesbit--- if you're Christian and still said that then I doubt you even read any of it. Deb D--HAHAHAHA are you serious? don't believe everything people tell you. LOL (I'v been an active Mormon my whole life, went to seminary and institute as well) The question was "How do you feel about the LDS's proclamation on the family?" for anyone who forgot
The Caldwell Family Name, please help.? Hi guys, I've been recently doing some study on family heritage and roots and I just wanted to make sure I have my facts straight here. First off, I understand that I am an American, I've lived here my entire life so please don't troll me. Anyways, from what I can gather my family is comprised of the Caldwell Family and the Anderson family. From what I understand, the Caldwell family is Scottish and resided in Ayr. The Anderson family is apparently Swedish and Scottish and from what I can make of it a lot of my family was born and bred in Scottland/Ireland until recently in the past few decades more like one or two. If any of you full blooded Irish people out their can confirm this for me, that would be great :) I plan on visiting sometime soon, ever since I read my families history about a year ago I have felt strong emotional ties with all of it, I understand that I am an American but I would love to return to the homeland some day :) That's cool and all Abhik, however, I'm not related to anyone named Buddy Caldwell, nice try though. I already know that we are Scottish whoever posted that second answer, I know for sure that we have Scottish roots, my question is about the Irish part of it. Either way, I could get citizenship. I don't know, I just saw that they resided in Ireland for some time so I was just curious as to if there was any still living in Ireland. Anyways, I know that both are regarded as a Celtic people and that I could obtain citizenship in Scottland, most likely. Thanks for the help guys will be picking a BA soon. Also, Orla, I'm well aware of what Ireland is in this day and age, doesn't mean I still don't want to visit and see the history, culture and everything that my family was and where they came from. To know where you're going it's important to know where you came from.
How can I get more connected with my Heritage/History? My family practices no traditions or any practices from your background. I am pretty much 50/50 norewegian and german and I feel there is something missing have no connections with my past. How could I go about learning more about these cultures back in the day and beliefs and practices. And how can I work that in my life? Does this make sense? I hope so. Just let me know if anyone has any input! Thanks
Christians: In light of recent events, what do you think of the LDS Proclamation to the World: The Family? WellTraveledProg - I don't really see any evidence to support your criticism. In fact, the Proclamation does more to support those who can't have children than anything else I have hear. And yes people are free to worship how they wish to, which is a separate issue than that of state. We courage all governments to support marriage between man and a wife, just as we would encourage governments to support laws against murder, drug abuse, theft.
Please help, I don't know what my heritage is, what do you think based off of these photos? I really have no idea what my family heritage is... and I don't know certain features like of what french people have, or german or anything. should i get a tattoo on my inner forearm? i want to have ti say 'life is beautiful' in German on my left inner forearm and/or that in Norwegian on my inner right forearm. for my family heritage.
How important is heritage/tradition to you when you size up a lifelong partner? I've been raised in Southern California for most of my life, but I was born in London to Jamaican parents. I have family in both London and Jamaica, but I'm So. Cal. bred. When I meet So. Cal. girls, they're very attractive to me as flings, but when I think about a lifelong partner, I can't see myself breaking the cycle of marrying Jamaican, because that's a part of my family. I understand that we are NOT our family members and that we can be whoever we wanna be, but my whole life I've been working little by little to re-connect myself to family and heritage that I've only seen a little bit of since I was a very young boy. When I think about these dazzling women who flow in front of me in So. Cal., I know I've met some amazing women who would be treated like royalty in some parts of this world... still, I feel sometimes that marrying outside of my heritage, original nationality, or race could only take me further away from my sense of connection. How do you see my situation from your own point of view? And how important is heritage-connection to you in dating life? I know globalization means one day we'll all be one people, but my true personal feeling on the matter is not as philosophical as that... Okay, so far I've gotten answers on either side of the fence. Some say the focus should be on whether you truly love them or not, and some say the focus should be on being able to at least understand and adjust to each other's families and cultural backgrounds. I'm guessing, though, that where love is concerned being able to find understanding with each other's families and cultural backgrounds is easy because you WANT to become a part of your loved one's family. Still, it has to be noted that sometimes no matter how much you desire to merge with your partner's culture and family, it's just too unfamiliar for you, and maybe that restricts the relationship. Seems like it's romanticism vs. realism.
Child Rearing In Japan? I am doing a project for school about the difference in Canadian child rearing practices and those in Japan. I am having a lot of trouble finding information on the internet and i was wondering if anyone knows where i could find some good information. I am looking for anything about cultural heritage, customs, family life, the family unit and roles of each member, and things that have changed and things that have remained the same in regards to parenting in Japan. If anyone could help me out i would really appreciate it! Thanks!
How does arrogance vs forgiveness work ... see details? in daily life, please give your definitions of arrogance and forgiveness short pertinent useful quotes are appreciated, please cite your source. but much more preferred is how do YOU do it daily, keep the grit of arrogance from blinding the practice of forgiveness...in your day, in your family heritage, in your past, present, and how it affects the future....

How can I learn more about my Cherokee/Choctaw heritage? Both my grandparents as well as my father are deceased. I don't really know anybody from his side of the family, except for my aunt who lives in New Mexico but I barely know her.
I am looking for a keepsake book that my husband can fill out to give our daughter when she is older.? Hi! I have found a couple of books that our Grandparents can fill out called “From Your Grandfather” and “For My Grandchild, a Grandmother’s Gift of Memory”. These are perfect books because they ask questions about heritage, family and life events such as dating and getting married. There are all kinds of neat questions asked and we can fill in their answers. It’s a great way to pass information along. I am having a hard time finding a book I can give my husband to fill out about his life. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Advice on how to Raise our Child in a Cross Culture family? Advice? I am American Born and come from a HUGE Italian American family. The majority are Catholic.( I was adopted German child but still honor my family's heritage) But I am still your Typical American female. My husband is an Only child of a Russian family. Him and his mother were born and raised in Russia. His father was a "Sperm Donor" is what his mother calls him. My husband was born into an Agnostic/Communist very very Liberal family. I of course was a Deacons Daughters, attended Christian school and was a devote Christian and very conservative. My husband and I met and we shared the same values together about purity, family and our Roles in a Family.... Here we have trying to start our own family. We want our Son/Daughter to be raised in a Christian home but we also want to keep my Husbands Russian culture in the family. It's important to both of us, that our Children know about both sides of the family. How can we gracefully enter parenthood without upsetting both of our Families. In the Christian Religion, the son is to be Circumcised but in the Russian culture, men are to be kept "whole". Most of the Drama will come from Naming our Child, to Baptizing our child,Circumcising our child. Some of these like Naming our Son is Very sacred to the Russian people, but really not as Life altering to my family. But Baptizing and Circumcising is. My husband and I both agree that it's our Choice but we also are held to the beliefs that we have grown up with. Advice on how to handle this?

What's your heritage? Like, just where is your family from. I am Norwegian, my mom and dad and were born in Norway, but live here with me and my brother, we were born in the USA. But, the rest of my family lives in Norway. Is anybody from Norway? And if you are not, what is your heritage? Thanks, Charles
Is it in bad taste to use red Chinese money envelopes for a purpose other than money? We are planning a baby shower for a friend who has Chinese heritage, and has spent most of her life in North America. The guests will be predominantly western, and from different areas of her life - work, friends, family, husband's family. We think the envelopes are really pretty, and wanted to fill them with red candies because red is an auspicious colour. Would it offend to use them this way, rather than filling them with money?
Chanes of some form of viking heritage? All my family was born and lived their lives around West Midlands in England, going as far as back as i can.

University/ Family Problems? I have decided that I want to study photography at university, so I started looking at schools a while ago. I live in BC with my dad, and my mom lives in Calgary. Years ago when I asked my mom she told me I could go wherever I wanted to go. However, when I mentioned to my step mom that I was considering Concordia in Montreal she told me absolutely not, because it would take me too far away from my dad (I just recently moved in with my dad- before this I lived with my mom 1000 km away for 8 years). Since then, I have become slightly estranged from my mom, and Concordia has become my second option. My ultimate choice is now the University of Gothenborg in Sweden. I have other reasons for going there- such as learning about my family heritage and escaping everything here. What am I supposed to do- follow my dream anyways or stay close to home (which is VERY unappealing) By the way, I have not talked to my dad about this yet- only my step mom and friends know.
HELP with a life changing decision..? okay so my sister is thinking of getting a tattoo, and she wants a no worries written her foot with the southern cross for our family heritage 1. is that lame? second part is i wanted to find a quote or one that somebody made up up that could maybe incorporate all the things about her considering im not creative. My Heritage? What should I classify myself as? I know this seems like a pretty easy question..but I just want to make sure. All my life I classified myself as black, until my mom talked to me about her side of the family, her grandfather was white. She also told me that she has native american blood also. Both my parents are jamaican so I thought I was only jamaican... Do I classify myself as Black or something else? Mixed, multicultural? Thanks =]
Is it normal to love your city even if it's not world renowned.? I live in Fort Worth, Texas and I love it here. I was born here and this is where my family lives. It has that Western Cowboy heritage but is now a moder city with skyscrapers in its downtown. Even though it might be overshadowed by Dallas, I still love it here. It isn't that special and a lot of people don't like it here. So is it normal to love your city for the fact of its history, heritage, genealogy, and the place that gave you life? Or am I just overly biased?
What happened to the life we knew? What happened to the trees? Fresh water? Why do live in fantasy and ignore our primary emotions? Ignore our natural sleeping paterns? Have the influence of the industrial revolution foged our minds? What happen to living with nature's season, spring, summer and fall? Winter was break. What happened to our natural sleep? Why are we so stressed everyday? Why does society have so many mental health problems, social problems, and split families? Do we need to back track to the way and rediscover the values we lived before this cusumer non-sense & fantasy, in order for a good future? As a Native Canadian, I live in a modern world, as every one dose now (north american continent). I have notice we as common humans are stressed. I have spoken with many people and have notice the plants, trees, and drinking waters. We are of proud heritages and I am myself of mixed heritages. What happen to the life we knew? How can I teach my children true values? and the generations they will create?

Where do I find birth records? I am attempting to trace our family's heritage back to when our family first came off the Mayflower. As you can imagine, this is a daunting task and even though I just started a month ago, I feel like it will take my whole life to complete. Not knowing where to turn, I asked a local genealogist where to start, and she told me to look up birth records in the various locations in the U.S where my family has lived. So, can anyone point me to where I can find birth records?
Heritage of slanted folded inner eye? My whole life i have had inner eyes that seem to have a fold and slant down. I don't have tight eyelids like chinese, or the slanted upward corners outwardly. I have no chinese heritage in my family that I know of, so what other heritage, if any other than chinese, could this be from? Is it common for somebody not of chinese heritage to have the same inner eye fold as a chinese person, but not the eyelids or outer eyes? yeah, i know i have almond shaped eyes but my mom has the same type of eyes without the fold in the corner, im not quite sure what it is. My heritage as far as I know is armenian, british, german, irish, and polish. I have not been able to find anything saying any of those have those that type of eyeshape. to be perfectly clear, im not racist and i was not saying one race was better than the other, i was just curious what it would be, because im pretty sure im not chinese. I was thinking maybe I had a chinese ancestor far back in history and this trait just popped up in the gene pool for me. Its interesting none the less tho.
Heritage Question ? (20 characters)? Most of my ancestors came from Northern Canada, and my European ancestry traces back to Scotland, France, Italy and England, but Canada was and is where most of my family lives in and comes from. Well my Civics teacher often asks us where our ancestors came from..should I tell her about my European ancestry??? I don't know to much about that considering I'm a 'mutt'.
Dating a family friend's daughter? Hi, I've known this girl ever since I was around 6 years old, and at that time I thought she was really pretty. We only talk now and again whenever we see each other. We only know each other because we have the same heritage and our families know each other, but they rarely see each other. We went to the same schools but hardly ever talked. At highschool, I recognised she was a pretty girl but didn't think she was "all that" and never saw her much more than a family friend. However, I think she may have noticed me now and kind of sensed she was interested in me (I'm pretty sure she tried to play footsie with me under the table in one of our classes, unless it was an accident of some sort). While in the last year of highschool, my mum and her mum bumped into each other. My mum got home and told me that the two were thinking of getting us together. At the time, I said "What?!?! No!" I didn't feel comfortable with the idea cause I had known her since I was 6, almost saw her as a relative as weird as it sounds, and was no way letting my mum pressure me into something like that or control that part of my life. Also, I just wasn't attracted to her at the time. Mind you, this happened 6 years ago (2004). Then 5 months ago, I bumped into her at a cafe with a couple of friends. She waved at me to get my attention and we just chatted for abour 5 mins about what we've been doing lately. But she looked more matured since school and I kind of felt physically attracted to her. Then just a few days ago, my mom saw the family and got home and mentioned her name to me, and has mentioned her everyday since she bumped into them lol. I know what she's getting at but I'm unsure on the idea. I hate my mum getting involved in the dating part of my life but this girl has kind of gotten more hot. Bad thing is, and you're gonna hate me for this, is that I'm kind of just interested in having SEX with her...not someone I will take serious. She's grown more mature and looks more hot that I just wanna bone her, I guess I want a relationship where we can hang out but with a lot of sex...not a relationship where I have to wait a year before I can make 'love' to her. I'm not sure what she wants if she's interested in me. That makes things really awkward don't you think? What should I do? We're both 23 years old now and she is a nice girl though.
I really hate my surname, how can I change it without hurting my family? I've hated my stupid name all my life! I hate my full name, and my surname. I feel like it isn't even mine and I was supposed to be named something else. It's been bugging the crap out of me for over 29 years. I would like to go to court and get it changed to my Spanish ancestor's name. I don't want to hurt my family, but I just don't identify with the name I have now. I don't want to take my husband's last name if I marry, because I want so badly to have my own identity. No offense to women who took their husband's name, but it would make me feel like an extension of my husband. I couldn't stand to feel like an extension of some guy. It's a personal decision and if others want to, that's great, but I need to have a name of my own. Here's why it bothers me. I'm of mixed heritage, British, Spanish, French and other stuff. However, I have always LOVED Latin culture. No offense to anyone else, but I've always had a strong affinity for Latin stuff and I identify with Spain and the Spanish language. I hate the surname because it makes me feel like an outsider in a culture that's practically half my life. My Spanish heritage means a lot to me, but no one has any way of knowing that I had Spanish ancestors. I tell people, but they don't believe me, and it does sound like I'm making it up. It kills me because I love latin stuff so much and I'm so proud to have Spanish heritage. Second of all, Sara Smith? I want a name that I can cherish. I can never cherish a full name that is so generic that I trip over someone else with that name every time I go for a walk. As a musician, I would love to have a name that sounds like an artist. I haven't given up on being a musician, but Sara Smith doesn't exactly sound like a star. I hate it because it's generic and sounds... mediocre. There's always some other girl with the same stupid name and it's annoying not to have a name of my very own to cherish. It sucks to be just one of many Sara Smiths. It's so annoying to constantly run into people with the same name. I would like to be one of a kind. The one and only. Not just another generic face to get lost in the crowd... not just another girl that you meet and forget. I would like to have a name that makes me feel like an irreplaceable individual and sound like an artist. Like I said, I don't want to take my husband's name, and even if I did, I don't know when, or if, I'll ever get married. This sounds shallow but it really makes me feel bad about myself not to have a sense of individuality and to feel like an outsider in a culture that I identify with, and even though my heritage is mixed... latin culture is the part that I relate to most (nothing wrong with the others, I just relate to latin stuff). I've decided to change it in court when I get back from my trip later this year. I don't want my family to be hurt. What should I do? I really hate my first name (how much love and thought went into picking out "Sara") but I'm thinking of just changing my surname. Gracias de antemano. People are always assuming I'm an Anglo Saxon... nothing wrong with being an Anglo, but... I'm not. It kills me to feel like an outsider in latin culture. Like I said, it's half my life. I wouldn't take my husband's last name, even if it were my favorite name in the world. I've never had a sense of identity. I've always been one of many. I want to be an individual and not an extension of my husband.
Would this be an okay cultural artifact? I would ask a classmate, but I don't know ANYONE who goes to my school(I'm new). I have no idea what I am doing...Here's what I know: I need to find a cultural artifact in my house that represents me. The teacher wrote examples of what it might represent: heritage, family, age. Then she said "Represent YOU!!!!" I got a bit confused...haha. Anyway, I am German on both sides of my family. So, I think I might bring this jewelry box that has a little sculpture of Berlin in it that I got from Germany. My response(I have to write a paper on it) of how it represents me is that it represents my heritage, how Germany is apart of my family's life(my dad is always going there) and how I might be moving there in a year or so. Also, could I include what's in the box and it's purpose in my paragraph(I keep these friendship bracelets my friends make me in there)? I have to write as much as possible! Thank you to anyone who helps!
Write an essay in which you tell us about someone who has made an impact on your life and explain how and why ? To be honest, I can't think of anyone and I was actually wondering if its possible to write about this alter ego of me and how he has helped me to shape me into who I am today. I wrote a crude opening and am stuck. Anyone can give me suggestions on whether is this a feasible idea? Essay is due on the 15th Jan. Here's the text: X made an impact on my life. X made me who I am and what I am today. X helped me to realize my dreams and aspirations; more importantly he led me on a path towards it. X, is important to me. Meet X, my alter ego. Shaped and formed through the years under the careful, moralistic upbringing by my watchful parents. The rich Chinese heritage and strict family values gave birth to a child who was obedient yet rebellious, disciplined then again unruly. Hints of oxymoron characteristic traits were seen in this child but he grew up bursting with youthfulness and cheerfulness. A happy childhood is all one can guess. (to be continued........Stuck for now.....) Thanks for the input! Well, actually its an application essay for UT Austin. I'm working on it to see how I can further elaborate but so far, these are just random thoughts that occurred in my mind and I thought I better had them penned out first. Its always good to write at least something even if you've got nothing to write about ain't it? Anyway, thanks for the input guys! Anyway, how do I reply to my answers instead of using additional details?
How can I tell if I need to go into therapy? I'm really embarassed to ask this, but I could use some advice. I have a family history of depression and anxiety, so I think I need to go into therapy. I find it really hard to find a nice guy; never had a real stable long term relationship with any of the guys I've seen before. I know I suffer from very low self esteem and find myself eating more than I should and shopping more than I should--perhaps to fill a void. I feel fat and ugly and that no man could appreciate what I have to offer. I didn't finish college, so on top of that, I feel like a failure. It doesn't help that I do not have a close relationship with my dad or his side of the family. He split from my mom when I was a baby and was not around for me. My mom & dad are from 2 different ethnic backgrounds. So I grew up only familiar with one side of my family and one part of my heritage. There is a lot more baggage I have, but do you guys think I need to see a therapist, to find some clarity in my life?
Have you ever had a relative that contracted cancer or another disease that did not follow desireable health p ractices in accordance with known studies about such diseases to prevent those diseases or curtail those diseases? How did it make you feel when they basically ignored many healthy lifestyle statistics and continued their risky behavior citing elder relative's behavior (ie eating habits) to support their behavior? Do you think family heritage plays a signifigant role in dietary changes to match an ever evolving way of life today?
I hate turncoat Hispanics and Latinos who deny their heritage or hate their people, are you one of them? I have heard of people who hate their heritage or ancestry. Many hispanics will say oh, my family came from Spain (New Mexico's Mexicans, or Texans), I heard from a buddy a lady he worked with claimed her family came from Spain, he later saw her at a Restaurant and the said hi, the Dad told him he was Michoacan Mexico, the lady turned Red. Another guy same story said he was Spaniard, guys first cousins family was from Mexico. Why deny your culture, it is the worst thing you can do in life. Indian + Anglo = Meztizo, doesnt matter where the Anglo or Indian come from and Meztizo = Mexican and many Hispanic Groups, in essence you all carry the same blood. I am an American, My father was born in Texas, and my mother in Mexico. I am also a Mexican-American and proud of my American Culture, and proud of my Mexican Heritage. Ecurb your question makes sense, but the reason for this type of manifestation here in the the U.S is due to the fact of the racial divesity. It would not be possible in Mexico for someone to waive a non Mexican flag they would be linched, this is because everyone there is Mexican, or in Africa, everyone there is Black, does this make sense to you, why it is tolorated in the U.S My allegiance too is to the United States Ecurb, I would die in battle defending the freedoms I so enjoy daily. I hold no alligiance to Mexico, Love the people hate the government and its laws and policies.
Can someone please give me some feedback on my essay? As an advocate, counselor, or listener, a social worker helps people to live more successfully within their communities by helping them find solutions to their problems. It also involves engaging not only with clients themselves but their families and friends as well. Social workers form relationships with people and the connections we have with people in our relationships can enhance our well being or damage it. We all have relationships with many people during our lives, and all of these relationships are different. The relationships we have with others are an essential part of life. Whether it is family, friends or others, it is important to know how to have healthy relationships with these people. Relationships increase our self-esteem, improve our mental and emotional health and help us make our life enriched. Our relationships benefit us from learning how to communicate with each other in a healthy way. Our well being is about having meaning in our lives, developing as a person and living a productive life. We tend to connect in different ways with our family and friends. They can help us in all stages of our lives. The relationships we have during our life contribute to our well being. Through our relationships, we are sustained in our personal growth and development and is the substance from which each of us grows and interacts. The relationship substance strengthens our bonds and builds trust. From it, we learn to have self-esteem, self-confidence and build our emotional as well as our mental being. They continue to provide us with the nurturing support we need to grow and handle challenges we face in the future. However, it is important for individuals to communicate with each other in order to work together to find ways to solve their problems. In healthy relationships, people respect, support and trust each other. We can accept each other for who we are, including ways we grow and change over time because our relationships change too. Having positive relationships with others is essential for our well being and so is being able to trust them. Trust impacts everyone. It affects the quality of every relationship, every communication, and every effort in which we are engaged. As social workers, we need to strengthen the communication and interactions between families. If relationships are strong, then this will contribute to improve the well being of an individual and them being able to positively contribute as a whole. Therefore, individuals can have productive and a meaningful life as a result of having stronger relationships with each other. Overall, the relationships we have with each other affect our interactions, well being, and fulfilling our emotional health. Therefore, relationships need to be strengthen to benefit the well being of an individuals life. The individuals that I want to help improve their lives come from different backgrounds and cultures. We need to understand that an individuals’ culture can affect their behavior, views, thinking, and learning. At the same time, have respect for our differences, no matter where people come from, what their beliefs are, or what their race or ethnicity is. Each of us are unique individuals and yet we can learn something new about others backgrounds and cultures that are different. For example, I consider myself to come from a diverse family. I am of mixed race. My mother is Mexican and my father is Black. I spent my life under the sole care of my Mexican mother. I grew up in a small town called San Juan in Hidalgo County, Texas. The county was eighty percent Hispanic and Latino. I enjoyed that I learned how to speak a different language. So, eventually when I learned how to speak Spanish fluently, I could relate to other cultures. When people would hear me speak Spanish, they automatically assumed that I went to school to learn the language, not knowing this is a part of my heritage. But when I told them I was mixed with Mexican, I would get a shocking reaction from them. I would share something with them in Spanish, so they could know that I also knew how to speak their language. They realized that we had something in common. This was always the reaction I would get from people that lived in Texas. I never let that bother me. I learned that if you never ask questions about someone’s culture, then people would never learn about other people’s culture they are not familiar with. Learning about other people’s differences can enrich our lives.
I recently found out that I am of Romani/Roma descent. Can anyone give me info to reconnect with the culture? It was kept a secret all these year because of fear of prosecution and the family lost the heritage, but i would love to bring it back to life. Any help is MUCH appreciated!!
Why don't legal immigrants help to put a stop to the flood of illegals from mexico? The illegals ruin your chances for a happy life here. They laugh at you for being an honest sincere person who obeys the laws and just wants a better life for yourself and your family. Why the hell don't the good people of Mexican heritage stand up and be counted?
How does a bi-racial child feel about their parents and heritage? My daughter is 4. I'm white and her dad is hispanic. Just curious, are there any half and half people who can comment how they felt about their white half and hispanic half. What was life like for you and did it ever cause any issues to arise? She lives with me and I notice she is more influenced by her white heritage bc her dad and his family are not involved. I teach her Spanish and we talk and enjoy her culture but I just want to know what other things can be done and what the experience is for those of biracial heritage. Do you feel being raised by one race affected u in some way? Thanks!
What agency do I go to in order to immigrate to Scotland from the US? Family from my mother side is Scottish and I am interested in getting back to that heritage and locality. I want to immigrate to Scotland in the coming few years to get the money saved up to begin a new life in new home :) Thanks
Why does McCain have so DAMN! many supporters on this site? His family lineage consist of war mongering, slave owning, profiting land owners who wouldn't know anything about the common man even if they tried. The Family: A Proclamation to the World? This is truly beautiful The Family: A Proclamation to the World We, the First Presidency and the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator's plan for the eternal destiny of His children. All human beings—male and female—are created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny. Gender is an essential characteristic of individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose. In the premortal realm, spirit sons and daughters knew and worshiped God as their Eternal Father and accepted His plan by which His children could obtain a physical body and gain earthly experience to progress toward perfection and ultimately realize his or her divine destiny as an heir of eternal life. We declare that God's commandment for His children to multiply and replenish the earth remains in force. We further declare that God has commanded that the sacred powers of procreation are to be employed only between man and woman, lawfully wedded as husband and wife. We declare the means by which mortal life is created to be divinely appointed. We affirm the sanctity of life and of its importance in God's eternal plan. Husband and wife have a solemn responsibility to love and care for each other and for their children. "Children are an heritage of the Lord" (Psalms 127:3). Parents have a sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs, to teach them to love and serve one another, to observe the commandments of God and to be law-abiding citizens wherever they live.
Who do you believe you were in a past life? You have to have an open mind about this topic. I know a had several past lives and a parallel life as we speak. A past life could very well simply be an imprint left on our brain from our multitude of heritages. That's why some behaviors are genetic behavior. Each time we are born, we inherit a genetic imprint of thinking from our mother, father, or other relatives in our family. Nonetheless, so as I do not suck the fun out of this question, who do you believe you were in a past life? I believe I was definitely a princess in a past life in Egypt. The family I have now was actually there with me. I believe I was an aristocrat in England at one point and time and that would explain my love for England when I was a child although, no one really told me anything about that country. I was just drawn to it and of course my own dad thought I lost my mind especially since I am black. My family I have now was not with me. I also believe I was a female of not so long ago, in which the KGB was chasing me because I knew something they wanted to know. I think I escaped, but died shortly thereafter. The life I lead now is the life I believe I am living for being a rich almost heartless person. I don't think in any of my lives I married because I think I died at an early age in my 30s. Oh, and the parallel life that I think I have....I believe it's true. Although, I think the woman that is living parallel to mine is disturbed by feeling my presence and wishes to be left alone. People sometimes think she has a touch of mental illness probably although she leads the life of a normal person, she is rich, has a husband and travels a lot and looks similar to me. I switched spots with her to redeem myself from my past before I came to earth again. I know I never mentioned anyone famous. Although, I do believe I was rich on various occassions, but one life in which I was chased by the KGB, I do not believe I was rich. I probably feel as though my past characters were rich because of an attitude or character I possess today. I'm not rich now, but I have this slight personality of grandeur and if anyone treats me less my response is somewhat like "How dare you?! Do you know who I am?" However, it's strange that although my family has been "not rich" all of our lives, we have a problem coping with it. Others seem to do fine around us at our financial level, but we truly are throwing fits on the inside of ourselves and are preoccupied with it. Some people think we are snobs although we do not believe we are. My family & I have champagne tastes on a beer budget. I found out a few years ago that we actually have a famous black family that we are linked to who were the first black millionaires and aristocratic, but down to earth.
Do You SeeThose backing border agents want to see evidence of wrongdoing? If you can't read don't complain how long it is. Drug smuggler Osbaldo Aldrete-Davila was shot in the buttocks as he ran away from two border patrol agents near the Rio Grande River in February 2005. Department of Homeland Security officials told congressional leaders last month that two Border Patrol agents convicted of shooting a drug smuggler admitted to supervisors that they were "out to shoot Mexicans" the day of the shooting, but have yet to provide proof the agents made such statements. In an effort to convince four concerned congressman that the trial, conviction and sentencing of El Paso, Texas, Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean were warranted, representatives of Homeland Security's Office of Inspector General met privately with the congressmen to assure them of Ramos and Compean's guilt. The agents were convicted earlier this year of shooting admitted drug smuggler Osbaldo Aldrete-Davila in the buttocks as he ran away from them near the Rio Grande River in February 2005. Ramos and Compean were sentenced last week to 11 and 12 years, respectively, in prison. Rep. Ted Poe, R-Texas, one of the congressmen at the private meeting, said he and three of his House colleagues were told by the OIG's office that the agents "were out to shoot Mexicans," and that Homeland Security had other damning information about Ramos and Compean's actions the day Aldrete-Davila was wounded. Poe and fellow Texas Republicans John Culberson, Kenny Marchant and Michael McCaul met with the OIG officials Sept. 26 in Texas. Those officials, however, did not provide proof of the agents' supposed confession. Instead, they said they would provide the information after last week's sentencing hearing, according to the congressmen. Two of the congressmen, along with National Border Patrol Council President TJ Bonner and Andy Ramirez, chairman of the Chino-based Friends of the Border Patrol, now are demanding that the OIG immediately provide the evidence it promised. Both organizations have publicly supported Ramos and Compean. Officials at the Office of Inspector General did not return phone calls for comment. "They will provide us the information we requested. They will either provide it informally, or they will be doing it formally," Poe said. Jack Hirschfield, a spokesman for McCaul, said the congressman's office also has asked for the OIG information. "Congressman McCaul is interested in following the ongoing issues involved in this case," Hirschfield said. Poe said it is unclear what type of evidence the OIG will provide against the agents, and wonders why it wasn't used in their trial. Bonner said the OIG's claims are an effort to detour Congress from holding hearings on the agents' case in November. "These outrageous fabrications were clearly intended to derail the congressional investigation into the circumstances underlying the prosecution of two innocent Border Patrol agents," Bonner said. Texas U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton, whose office successfully prosecuted Ramos and Compean, said at a press conference after last week's sentencing that the pair shot an unarmed suspect. "Being a United States Border Patrol agent is not a license to shoot people," Sutton told reporters. "It is especially not a license to shoot unarmed ... suspects who are running away from you. ... It is not a license to write a report and turn it in which leaves out the fact that you shot an unarmed suspect who was running away from you." But an Office of Inspector General memorandum obtained by the Daily Bulletin Tuesday contradicts Sutton's claim that Ramos and Compean reported Aldrete-Davila was unarmed. The memorandum of activity was written April 4, 2005, by Christopher Sanchez, the OIG investigator who questioned Compean about the Feb. 17, 2005, shooting. Sanchez was the same agent who went to Mexico to interview Aldrete-Davila, according to documents obtained by the newspaper. Sanchez brought the smuggler back under protective custody to the United States, where he was given medical care and was granted immunity by the Texas U.S. Attorney's office to testify against the agents. Sutton could not be reached for comment Wednesday. The six-page memo includes Compean describing what happened after Aldrete-Davila wrestled with the agent and threw dirt in his eyes. "Compean said that Aldrete-Davila continued to look back over his shoulder towards Compean as Aldrete-Davila ran away from him," the memo reads. "Compean said that he began to shoot at Aldrete-Davila because of the shiny object he thought he saw in Aldrete-Davila's hand and because Aldrete-Davila continued to look back towards his direction. Compean explained that he thought the shiny object might be a gun and that Aldrete-Davila was going to shoot at him because he kept looking back at him." Assistant U.S. Attorney Debra(cq with official web site) Kanof told the Daily Bulletin in August that the agents never told anyone the smuggler was carrying a gun. Kanof also could not be reached for comment on the incident report. Two of Aldrete-Davila's family members, interviewed by the Daily Bulletin in El Paso last week, said Aldrete-Davila has been smuggling drugs since he was 14 and "wouldn't move drugs unless he had a gun on him," said one. The family member, who asked to remain anonymous for fear of reprisal, added that Aldrete-Davila has "been bragging about the money he's going to get in a lawsuit every time we talk to him - but now he's nervous." Aldrete-Davila is suing the U.S. Border Patrol for $5 million for violating his civil rights. Meanwhile, the families of both agents are still trying to understand why the government would tell congressional representatives Ramos and Compean wanted to "shoot Mexicans." "If anybody knew our family, they would know that most of our family still lives in Mexico," said Claudia Martinez, Compean's sister. "We are of Mexican heritage. Ramos is the same. Why would they ever say such a thing?"

how get back us social life after living abroad? I'm american of asian heritage, lived in us most of my life. Lived in midwest, moved to california in middle school. Never had trouble making friends then, most of my friends were white, i grew up with them. then because my father's job, we moved back to taiwan. there i had to learn the language and attend their native schools. i had some friendships with some natives, but they soon ended as i thought they were too critical of me and the way americans "should" look and behave. then i taught english, but since i was much younger than all of my coworkers, i wasn't really able to build friendships. didn't really have any friends while in taiwan, and only friends i had ones i made in the us. we wrote, and for about 10 years lived like that. then my family moved back to the us a few years ago, and my best friend in ca wouldn't see me, she thought i looked awful. same with most ppl in ca. live in socal now, many ppl snobbish or don't have time for me.have only 2 friends. how get us life back?
I see myself as mixed heritage and not white - am i correct ? im hispanic but turned out looking white looking with deep saphire blue eyes. my sister and everybody else looks different, very medeteranian, deep olive skin, brown eyes etc. i have a mixed heritage going back and everyone in my family doesnt look white except me. even though i have lived in england my ancestry is not british neither to be precise : french ( bordeaux, and st pauls ) spain ( madrid , Barbate and Guipuzcoa ) italy -(Messina ) so i hold no affinity with england because ive had a bad life here and aim to leave , im sorry but this is how i feel. my only plight now is to leave england and if i get insulting answers from any brits i swear i will block and downflag yo ***. my sister even looks mexican . i turned out just looking like a blue eyed white guy and everywhere i go people see me as white and accept me as that. i dont like that at all - i dont like THAT at all. seriously how can i acept this ? i feel i stand out from all my family
DNA tests for heritage/ethnicity: What's the best company and test that gives you the most information? I'm half adopted and I have never met my biological father. I don't look like anyone in my family, my half sister, or birth mother. My whole life I got asked, "Are you adopted?" "What country are you from? ", or "What are you?" and I could never really give a good answer. They would always try to guess. Surveys, tests, and even jobs ask you all the ethnic groups you belong to, and I'm not sure which ones to check. I've heard stories about DNA tests that can tell you specific information, like which countries your relatives are from, or what European, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, Middle Eastern, African, etc. groups that your ancestors belonged to. Can a woman even find out anything about her father's DNA, or ancestors, or only her mother's? Is there a good source for DNA tests like this? I really want to answer these questions. It's not really important, I know we're all human, but everyone has had those days at school as a kid where they told you to give a speech about your family tree. It was really frustrating for me, not really knowing half my family. I just want to feel like a belong to something. Not a cult, lol, but just to feel I come from somewhere. To know who I am. I know who we are isn't determined by the customs of some ancient culture, but it's still fascinating. Is there any way to get information about the father's heritage with a DNA test if you are a woman, or is that not possible. If you've gotten a test, what was the website you visited. Is it general or specific. Does it give percentages, or confirm relation to a particular tribe or group?
is it ok to make your avatar darker than you are in reality to make a statement your proud of your heritage ? in reality im far from perfect like my avatar, alot of times in my life, because of my mixed race identity ive drifted through times of identity crisis. im tanned, olive complexion but not very much and have deep blue eyes, i turned out looking white in-fact, i often feel Dysphoria because i dont know of any mixed races of my heritage who look as i do. most of my family are dark and dont look white. my heritage is ; spanish , french , Argentinian , mestizo , dominican , Caribbean. so do you think this is strange or ok ?
Help me please !!!? I have to write an essay on the significance of Hispanic heritage and/or family in your life significance of Hispanic heritage and/or family in my life... Can you please proofread my essay, thanks a bunch.? There are approximately 6,602,224,175 individuals inhabiting our planet today and hundreds if not thousands of distinct cultures. So, why is it that people choose to stereotype, undoubtedly fitting countless people in groups in which they do not belong? Face it, everyone uses stereotype. Some of these stereotypes may be positive towards a group, whereas others are put down on certain groups of people. For Instance, Irish people are known as drunks, Asians are the smart ones in school, Blacks are athletics, Caucasians can’t dance, Mexicans are gardeners, Arabians work at 7-elevan, and Indians are poor taxi drivers or rich doctors with a stay at home wife and 4 whiney kids. For some people all these stereotypes may have started at one point in their lives a long time ago, and now it becomes apart of society. People cannot deny that they have never stereotyped another group, because even at a time when they consciously do not know they are saying it, in reality they are. Some people use stereotyping for entertainment and joke about it, while others use it to hurt someone. It doesn’t matter what you stereotype against, all stereotyping has serious repercussions. Stereotyping promotes ethnocentrism, narrow-mindedness, and bad feelings. Ethnocentrism refers to judging the world in terms of the values and knowledge of your own culture exclusively. It’s really annoying when you think your culture makes you “special”, or that since you are in the majority culture, majority cultures should try to act more like you. In Canada, we are multicultural. So we are supposed to accept and respect people of different cultures, creeds, colors, etc. because it’s this diversity that makes us stronger, makes us a great nation. But sometimes ethnicity can set people apart, or more so foster a ‘Canada vs. Them’ mentality. Obviously, it’s not hard to see that Ethnocentrism has negative affects everybody. If you judge a strange culture you’ve just come in contact with based on your values and beliefs, you could run into the danger of indirectly creating generalizations and stereotypes of those people because you would feel superior to them, when in fact, they are just like you, although, they might do things a bit different. At its worst, Ethnocentrism has led people to commit the destruction of cultures, and genocide, the destruction of entire populations. This happened, for example, to Jews living in Nazi Germany in the 1940s. Cultural narrow-mindedness is when people tend to label a certain characteristic on groups such as race. Let’s say you’re a black guy. Would it be right if I said "all black guys shoot people"? No, that's just not right, because not all black people carry around guns, simple as that. What if a black man applies for a job and their boss refuses to hire him because he heard the stereotype that all black men shoot people, when, in fact, that man has 2 straight A kids, a loving successful wife, and volunteers at a homeless shelter everyday to help people. This is why stereotypes are narrow-minded. Once you've heard that all black people shoot people, you might go around believing that and never be able to trust a black person. Every culture has its own little traits that are simply a part of their basic manners. It is the exaggeration of those traits that make stereotyping hateful and stupid. Thus, promoting narrow-mindedness. For instance, Bigots take a little piece of some other culture, blow it out of proportion, and cause it to appear as foolish, greedy or even socially unacceptable, because it is something they hate. Stereotype at many times is used to hurt feelings. Stereotypes lump people into a group and take away their individuality. Their unique talents are negated and they are attributed with qualities they may or may not have. For example, if you have a job applicant come in, and let us says he is African American. You have seen a lot of gang related stories on the news and in the movies that show African Americans involved in gangs, and even though the applicant is dressed appropriately, you decide to circular file his application. Basically, you would be giving this person an unfair evaluation solely based on his/her personal thoughts and beliefs. When we are grouped or judged by race, gender or cultural heritage, it often makes us feel as if we are no longer people. Racial profiling is one of the worst ways a person can be hurt by stereotyping. Racial profiling takes away one’s dignity, it abuses our civil rights. The fact that the world is an unsafe place and we are at war in the Middle East does not justify stereotyping people based on the fact that they appear Arab or have a darker skin colour. It has hurt many Arab-Americans in the wake of 911. For instance, many Arab-Americans were and continue to be detained without just cause, simply because they have been stereotyped and wrongly labeled. This stereotyping has destroyed families and lives. The government justifies it as the "war on terror." I see it as an abuse of power. Since the beginning of mankind, stereotyping has just been a normal nature of humanity. Or am I just being stereotypical? Stereotyping should be humorous, and taken with a grain of salt, and should not be removed from our lives, because it is a thing that helps us all to see and to realize that people are different, and unique. You may act as though you don't see or notice a difference between nationalities, and colors of skin, but you would be lying to yourself, and creating a false environment for your children. People are different. Always have been, always will be. It's interesting, fun, humorous, and delightful, and those differences should be embraced, and nurtured. They shouldn't be ignored, because if you can't see what attempting to make all people the same has done to society today, perhaps you should begin to observe the repercussions that exist now, because of the so-called "liberal-mindedness" that is so common among those who have never been anywhere outside of their own living rooms. Travel, and learn from those other cultures. Listen to them, and laugh about your differences, and poke fun at one-another. There is absolutely nothing wrong with making good fun of your friends, and allowing them to do the same to you.
How do you cope with racism when it is in your own family? My sister is Hawaiian/Tongan and I am Hawaiian/White. She is very racist against Whites and occasionally will say racist remarks against Whites. She also tries to get other family members to agree that White people are dumb, stupid, etc. It is actually a culturally acceptable habit to be racist against whites where we live. It's very sad. I try to act like it doesn't bother me because she is the type of person who likes to know your weakness and attack you. She isn't like a friend who I can break off our relationship. She is my sister. And she lives with my mom, who I visit often and have a good relationship with. What would you suggest? It really bothers me because it is so shameful what she does. I am not ashamed of my heritage.
Is it better to be an American or A hypenated American? I am an American, but the PC world that we live in tells me that I should be an English/ German- American. that's just lame. I am proud to be an American. Should the media, polititians and people in general be supporting this idea of putting ancient heritage before current heritage? I mean, my family has lived in America since 1890's. I think that the only people that should hyphenate are people that actually came to this country in their lifetime or their parents life time. Even my wife who became an American citizen when she was 17 only wants to be known as an American. I think it is only people who live here and have lived here for generations that want to hyphenate to stand out or something. Whats up with that? Let's be Ameirican I say. Agree?
Girlfriend is entering the Special Olympics and we face discrimination from family? My girlfriend Gigi and I announced to our families that she would entering a special Olympic event this winter somewhere in the tri-state area. My family pulled me aside and told me things like "it's time to end the charade" and "you are lucky that they haven't taken you in." I was beyond shocked when they said this, as I had always thought that my family was supportive of Gigi and I's relationship. You see we face what may be one of the greatest discriminations in America. I am tall lanky red haired anglo saxon male and Gigi is a transgendered African American with Muslim heritage. Gigi also suffers from Downs Syndrome. I cannot believe the insensitivity of people in our lives, let alone the strangers. We shared a tender kiss in the mall one day and a security guard grabbed me and held me until the police came. I thought they were going to accuse me of theft, but the security guard told the cops he wasn't sure what we did was legal!!!!! HUH? Is this 1850?
English as a second language, family as a first priority? My boyfriend's family is a mix of 2 heritages, niether where english is a first language. His parents are divorced and have no contact. His father's family has made an effort to learn english and speaks fluently, if sometimes difficult to understand. His mother's family however has made little to no attempt to learn english. Some members of the family do not speak english at all despite being in the country for 30 plus years. My boyfriend had a really had time learning english due to his mother and her lack of skills. My concern is that if we have kids, and his mother lives with us or close by, how influcened are they going to be her lack of english skills? (She will sometimes start off in english and finish in chinese, speaking superfast the entire time...)
Even Though The Constitution States We Have The Right To Keep And Bear Arms, Why Do Some States Ban Them? We have the constitutional right to have any type of gun we want. as gun ownership goes up, violent crime goes down. Mayor Daley is a freakin' idiot when it comes to firearms ownership. He doesn't know diddly squat when it comes to guns, heritage, and family tradition. Guns are an important part of my family's outdoor nature and we should have the right to carry concealed firearms in the state of Illinois and everywhere else. Maybe someone would finally shoot Mayor Daley and get a Republican mayor in there who would put things into order. There is no point in keeping our gun control laws and tightening them further. The criminals are still going to get the guns and AK-47s anyway. We also need to get Governor Blagojebitch out of office too. GUNS SAVE LIVES!
Diary of my life.. ONE QUESTION?!? if Madonna donated her budget for shoes for, let’s say, erm, a month, to this family, would this little boy have to be snatched away from his family, his surroundings, his culture, his heritage and his birthright? What about her hairdressing fees for a few weeks? We aren’t even talking about percentages of her net worth—that would simply be rude. However, might it be possible for her to go for a few months without the attentions of her pedicurist? If so, then no adoption would be necessary, would it?
Do many latin/Hispanic/Spanish people deny their heritage? MediaTakeOut.com has learned that Hispanics are up in arms about some comments made by Jessica Alba in a rent issue of Para Todos magazine. It turns out that in the article, Jessica denied her Hispanic heritage. Below are some quotes from the recent interview Alba is my last name and I'm proud of that. But that's it. My grandparents were born in California, the same as my parents, and though I may be proud of my last name, I'm American. Throughout my whole life, I've never felt connected to one particular race or heritage, nor did I feel accepted by any. If you break it down, I'm less Latina than Cameron Diaz, whose father is Cuban. But people don't call her Latina because she's blonde. "I've got cousins galore. Mexicans just spread all their seeds. And the women just pop them out.""My grandfather was the only Mexican at his college, the only Hispanic person at work and the only one at the all-white country club. He tried to forget his Mexican roots, because he never wanted his kids to be made to feel different in America. He and my grandmother didn't speak Spanish to their children. Now, as a third-generation American, I feel as if I have finally cut loose." "My whole life, when I was growing up, not one race has ever accepted me, ... So I never felt connected or attached to any race specifically. I had a very American upbringing, I feel American, and I don't speak Spanish. So, to say that I'm a Latin actress, OK, but it's not fitting; it would be insincere." "My grandfather was the only one in our family to go to college. He made a choice not to speak Spanish in the house. He didn't want his kids to be different." "[Before] I always felt like such an outcast and now I feel like people are more diverse ethnically. I was always self conscience of my puffy lips and darker skin when I was a kid, because I felt like I didn't fit in. And now its mainstream, and color isn't as big of a deal and if anything its better."
