how do you find your family records and history online? i would really like to know.? i want to know about my families history and where i came from. help please?
What's the best place to find out your family tree, or birth records for FREE? I don't want to but things to get them or have to become a member. I'm working on my family tree and I'm having trouble finding out my grandmother's side of the family. Please help by recommending sites, etc.

Can a detective use police records and contact your family to find you because he works at a police station? He knew my street address and everything, and the only way he could know that is through the PA driver system. Paypal doesn't have my updated address. A detective called my phone over a personal matter, I sold some stuff on eBay to him and he hasn't received it yet and he apparently used PA state driving records and personal records to contact my father and call him and ask for a way to contact me. He called him representing the Pittsburgh Police Dept. He then called me under the same pretense, claiming he was with the Pittsburgh Police and that he was going to come arrest me if I didn't refund him the money? This can't be legal right? Should I press charges? No I dont like in pittsburgh, I live hours away and the item was for 90 bucks. And it has also only been 8 business days since he purchased the item. The auction said it would take 7-14 business days. It's pretty ridiculous. I'm 25 and yes the items are sent they are apparently held up a post office. The question is not about paypal or auctions, the question is about whether or not he has the legal right to use police and state records to contact me and my family, for personal reasons. There are no charges filed, it is not outside of the allotted time of the auction. He would simply receive a refund through paypal and that will end the story, please stop assuming there is theft and charges involved, you are inferring something that is not true. I feel that my rights have been violated by this detective, he has called my family and stated he is a detective and is looking for me. This cannot be legal, he can call as himself if he can find the information, but I do not see how he could legally bring his job title into a personal matter such as this.
Anyone know how to find your family histroy? I know my great great grandfather's name and that he served in the Spanish American War. I even have a pic of him in his uniform but I can not find him on any census or any record whatsoever. It's like he never existed.I've tried three websites and nothing(either that or they want me to pay)This is a project for my history class.I've got a lot to find out in a short bit of time...any advice? Where can I find Nazi Family Records? So here's the issue, I've been working on my family tree for years and I'm pretty proud of what I've uncovered on my dad's side and my mom's father's side. For my dad's side, it was a mere tracing through Italian records which turned out pretty easy for the most part, and then finding connections with other Trees on ancestry.com. For my Mom's Father, it was simple (for the most part) of searching canada then the UK. But then there comes my Mom's Mother. I have Nurnberg searching their archive for any thing that was salvaged after the War when her church burned down, but unless that turns up the only other possibility is to find her birth-fathers records. Those records would have been held by the Third-Reich and i do not know where I would be able to go to locate that information (whether in German or translated by a 3rd party in English). The only thing we really know about the guy was his rank, the year/place he passed away during the war, and that he was a resident of Nurnberg (again though those records are probably gone with the church registry) So is there any place where one may go for Archives kept during the Nazi-German times? And please, I dont want to hear anything unrelated to the question like for instance your views and hatred to Germany of that time frame. Please hold some respect i'm just looking for records of my family. To give more clarification, He was in the Nazi Regime, that's a fact that we know in our family and have always known. Reason I look towards Nurmberg is for one he was born in Nurmberg, he lived in Nurmberg at the time, and was killed on a train leaving Nurmberg, it is not known for sure though if the train was bombed while still in Nurmberg, Balveria, or further away. Nurmberg also houses alot of Germany War documents (as told by the civilian contractors that teach us German here on base...I'm based in Bamberg Germany) What i meant by "held" by the Third-Reich, simply put that I doubt that the reformed government after the war, kept all the files from the Third-Reich active along side the current ones post-WW2. Surely there would have to be an archive of some sort for not just Third-Reich war documents, but for any prior service documents, you always keep them separated and archived.
How do you find your Birth Parents from the 50's when records are sealed.? I have been looking for many years. The problem seems to be that in the 50's when I was adopted, records were shoddy. I know there must be something on file as far as a birth certificate, but in Michigan you can not have access to this. The limited info in the 'Bio' my parents were given is not helpfull and I found out a few years ago that many times that info is made up at the orphanage. I have health issues that I need to find out about. If certain things are 'family' traits, or not. I have children who need to know as well. The Lutheran home I was in is no longer a going concern and no records surviving. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My birth cert. says I was born in Charlotte, Mi. which is in Eaton County. My parents picked me up from the home somewhere in the Detroit area.
Genetic genealogy or Family Records? I am a filipino, with a long line of ancestors who came from different places. Both my mother and my father are filipino, but my mom tells me she has more influence from spain and my dad says he has more influence from the chinese( I know because I have the eyes while my cousins don't express the trait). African Americans: Have you studied your geneology to find your country of origin? I tried and got nowhere, its very hard to find any records of several generations back...

Do you know a lot about your family's origin? I'm lucky enough to have a history buff great-uncle who wrote a sort of book about one side of my family. He managed to trace part of my family back to records from Halifax Parish, Yorkshire, England in 1611. I have no idea how he managed to do this. It tells about attacks by Native Americans and stuff later in the colonies. How do people find this stuff out? I'm impressed. I know hardly anything about my mother's side of the family other than the fact that my grandfather constantly tells me I'm somehow related to Judy Garland (her real name gives it away and I have older relatives who looked like her and it's scary.) They also tell me that they are mostly German. Do you know a lot about your family? Do you care? If you do know, what's the earliest you can trace? Things like this really interest me.

Just in a bored moment of internet searching, I found a picture of my great grandmother who passed away several years ago. how to find your history? Is it possible to find out your family history when you don't know a lot about your family? My dad was adopted by his moms 2nd husband when he was young and knows nothing of his real father. My parents have never really told me anything about our history and we don't talk much anymore so I was wondering if i could find it out myself online or if there are records somewhere that would help. I have no grand parents that are left living except one great grand mother who has Alzheimer's so bad she thinks I've graduated high school the last 3 yrs in a row. Ancestory - how do you research your family tree to before records began? I watched something on tv some time ago , thee was a guy on it claiming he was some distant descendant of william tell so we are talking the fourteenth century! another claimed he was a descendant of einstien, and there were several others - all descendants of famous people in history , some going back as far as the twelth century or 3oth descendants etc now iv been doing my family tree and most online records only go back to the 17th or 18th century , i may be wrong but i think birth records also only started 100 or so years ago , so were these people lying? how can anyone researc ancestors from hundreds of years ago - even professionals - where would they find the information
Is it possible to have your family tree dating back as far to 500 years ago? I did a test and found out I had German,Italian,Poland (what is Poland?),Spain and then some parts from Africa and then they put Afrcan American oh yeah also I have Iran too (that was a real shock oddly) Is it possible to find all my family ties from Africa,am not so sure about Iran at the moment,and Poland ect. with pictures have all my family records for myself starting 500 years ago and now?

Does anyone know how you can trace your family tree when relatives have been born abroad? My Mum was born in India & my Granny's death was registered there too - we have my Mums birth certificate but cant trace granny's death (grandad died a long time ago so cant ask him, likewise all of granny's other relatives who knew her) - Im trying to trace both granny's death certificate & the birth/death/marriage certificates of other relatives in India. The problem seems to be that Mum was born & granny died (& all the other births/marriages/deaths happened in the 1940's when control of India was being handed back to the people of India & both the British & Indian authorities kept completely different records, neither of which we can find as the people involved weren't in the British military. Any help would be greatly appreciated - Mum's been trying to do this for years but doesnt know where to start so I thought I'd try to help.

Have you researched your family tree and found something surprising? Have you researched your family history and found out something very surprising that you knew nothing about until now? I discovered my Great Great Grandmothers family was Jewish. I was surprised and now I have this information I am thinking about it, what does this mean to me, impact my previous idea of who I am? I cant ignore it. This is big, I searched Auschwitz survivors records and again found some ancestors listed. How would finding out something like this influence you and how would it impact your life? Would it? Yahoo is taking a very long time to post questions today. I am also embarassed and not a little ashamed that my family seems to have "lost" their Jewish beliefs during WWII. I have asked myself, would I renounce my religious beliefs and forfeit my heritage in order to escape persecution or the camps? I have asked other people this too. I dont think I would. I am trying to reconcile this in my mind, that this happened. I suppose if you had children, in order for them to survive I would renounce my heritage.

How can I find sealed adoption records and have them unsealed!? The father of my daughters was adopted! He is now deceased and was an only child that we know of. How Do Find your baby Pictures From the Hospital? My Husband Was in foster care so he has no pictures of him from when he was a baby and he has no family to ask them for his baby pictures, So i was wondering if there was a way to get your hospital pictures from when he was delivered in the hospital, Or to see if they have them on record. Without exact records, how can you tie dates together? My family is Austrian/Hungarian and not Austrian/Croatian as some have suggested, but without having an exact birth/death record, is it possible to piece a person together to see if they are tied to your family or not? I found on the LDS website, a list of about 11 people who have my same (Uncommon=Katanic, which is also my deceased father's) last name and I can not seem to be able to find records of *LY Katanic and family and Helbe Katanic and family from the 1800s. If no records turn up, should I write these people off and consider them to not be linked to my family? I am just assuming that at one time or another, because my surname: Katanic was all linked because of its uncommonness and that, just because one person may, for example, be from one place, there could have been a time when he or she may have been a part of my family in another. Anyone got a free web site for researching your family tree? I am trying to build my family tree and I found a great web site to do so at geni.com. Its set up so that when you add people to your tree you can put their e-mail in and send a request for them to join and they can add to the tree so you don't have to fill everything in yourself and they can add stuff you don't know. The problem is the site doesn't offer genealogy or a family finder to research the past. Everyone I have invited has joined and started adding what they could if I hadn't already put it in. Down side is that my parents don't know anything past their grandparents and don't even know if their grandparents had siblings. I was wondering if anyone knew a good site for finding people in your past that is 100% free (not looking for free trials), or know a way to get info on finding out who your related to. Side note I no longer live anywhere near where I was born and raised (also where the most of my family grew up but also moved away) so going to search public records is kinda out of the question. How can I find my ancestors, absolutely and undoubtedly free? I have been trying to find my heritage for ages now but I have no credit or debit card (14, kinda obvious) and NO WAY to get my parents to use theirs to pay these outrageous amounts of money. So, I need your help. Where can I find my family records for free and it is relatively easy to use? One person asked how much i pay for my cell phone a month and then they told me the cost for ancestry. com. Well here it is, I pay twenty dollars a month, from my own pocket on my pre paid phone. Other expenses are school supplies (paper, pens, pencils), books, and then the rest of my hard earned pay check (which sucks) is put into savings for collage. I cannot afford $13.50 a month.
in nc, if you are found in criminal contempt in family court, will this show up on your criminal record? If as a result of the contempt finding you have to serve a short amount of time in jail, will I be considered lying if I do not add this info. on job applications?
Adoptees - Are you from a sealed-records state? If so...? 2 Questions. As an adult adoptee from the closed records era, would you prefer: 1) Do you want your aparents to retain a copy of your original birth certificate and other related records to give to you some day, or would you prefer to legally be able to obtain your own copies? 2) Do you prefer to have to ask your aparents to find your natural family for you, or is that something you would prefer to do on your own, and then later decide what, if anything, to share with them? is it really a lot harder to find a new place to live after having an eviction on your record.? my family is about to be evicted from our current home and i was just wondering if it was going to be incredibly hard to find a new home. we fell on some hard times and both lost our jobs we have now both secured new decent paying jobs .
When tracing back ancestory and you find no trace of your fathers birth in the parish records and? nothing appears under the name stated on his birth certificate and that you think that your father's real surname was different from that shown on the birth certificate. I talking circ 1912 here. It would seem that my father was not who he thought he was and that his real father could have had him adopted through chancery into another family to save face. How can I follow this through as I have come up against a brick wall...no one registered with my Fathers surname. I was searching online at ancestory.com I think that my searches are going to be long and expensive. Does anyone know what I mean by in chancery?
How and where do you start researching your genealogy? Besides the oldest members in your family. I just recently became interested in this, but I have NO idea where to start. All the websites online you have to pay for - is money the only way to actually do this? My family is Polish and my grandparents came from Poland like 40/45 years ago. If your call is recorded by cps when you make a report can the person find out who made the call? We reported someone to CPS because we were afraid that a child was not being taken care of properly. The family is saying that it is false accusations and is saying that CPS can be supeonaed to release the tape. We would not make a false report and only did it out of concern for the child. Why do people think if your adopted and your okay with it that your in denial? Why do they think you have to? find your bio family to feel complete? And If you say you don't need to, they say your drinking kool aid and not facing facts? I support any adopted person who wants to find out about their natural parents. But I would like the same respect. If I say, I am okay with being adopted, I don't want to hear that I am just in some fog and don't know what I am saying. Find a genealogist in MA? I was looking for a genealogist that I could hire. Someone with extensive experience. I know I could use the resources of Latter Day Saints but I was also hoping that their would be some more resources closer to home (I'll try and look into any branches here too.) I guess I FIRST just wanted some advice from people who have researched their own family's ancestry, especially anyone who is "Hispanic" and from the Caribbean. It seems harder if you are from Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic or Cuba to research and look for records that will help you find your European ancestors...well, I haven't tried yet so we'll see but I am sure I'll run into obstacles. Do they keep good records, or any at all? HOw do you deal with poorer nations? Anyone know some GREAT genealogists in Mass that have worked with hispanic americans/caribbeans and so forth? Or have any advice?
Ever wonder why hospitals and doctors have gotten into this habit of destroying your medical records ? I have become disabled and tryed to get my medical records from "3" hospitals and even my family doctor. Come to find out that ALL of them say they destroy old records. Do they do this in case to hide liability in malpractice lawsuits ? I posted this because of my own situation and because of it, have asked my congressman to bring up a bill to STOP all of this. With present technology there is no excuse for persons to have to PROVE they have had certain medical conditions and can not get records from those PAID for services who suddenly decide they will not keep them around. There should be a facility to keep all these records. If they have the Library of Congress to hold all records of many different things, the government should also have a place to store peoples medical records until they are deceased. After all, THEY would benefit too by this action by all they pay out in disability payments..........

While I've grown up hearing the stories about how poorly I was cared form it didn't sink in until I read the following summary letter that the Child Services SWer wrote for me (identifying info. removed - I didn't need to remove all that much). ********** I have gone through your adoption file and this is a summary of the information it contains. Unfortunately there is no information about your birth and where you were born. The information it contains is very limited overall. From the records your adoption was a private arrangement. This was not unusual at the time and private adoptions would be arranged through a third party, perhaps a general practitioner or a vicar for example. The circumstances of your adoption with your mum and dad were that you were the daughter of a friend of your adopted mothers neighbour. This neighbour had heard that your birth mum had a new boyfriend and no longer had time to care for you. There is very little information about your birth mother recorded on the file. Her name at the time was [name] and she lived at [address]. [name] already had another child called [sister] who was older than you. No other information about [sister] is given. Social Services first heard about you going to live with your mum and dad from the health visitor involved. As a result a social worker went to visit your birth mother [name] at [address]. This was a two bedroomed flat in a multi storey block. The social worker who visited recorded that she had known [name] and her parents for a number of years and I believe she was indicating that there had been concerns in the past. When the social worker arrived at [name]'s flat she found it to be in a state of chaos. Why did you give your child up for adoption? I want to hear from all the birth mothers out there of your story. I want to know why you gave up your child to adoption and how it has affected you. I was adopted at birth and am currently trying to find my birth family. But it is next to impossible to open records that are a closed adoption in my state. Do you have a Margaret Rodden b.1845 TN in your family tree? I'm having trouble verifying the parents of my Margaret Rodden b. 1845, TN. Everything points to Upton Alexander Rodden and Cassandra Clark as her parents, but I've yet to find anything proving that their daughter Margaret is actually my Margaret. My Margaret was married to Joseph H. Brandon in Illinois in 1847. They are both buried in Clay County, Arkansas. If these folks are part of your tree, can you share your sources with me? I have a subscription to ancestry.com, so I've searched all the records available there and contacted everyone that has her on their tree. Uncle wants to find out someones phone records, is that illegal? My husband's uncle is wanting to get someone else in the family's phone records. He says that since he is a priest he has the right to get someones phone records. Is that illegal? He also claims that he can pay for someone elses phone records....isn't that illegal also? Is there any guides or documented books on tips about moving out of your parent's house? I know most of the basics like firstly,'get a job' - then find an apartment, but I guess I just haven't made myself familiar with the in-between information and tips on when you move out of your parent's place. Like all the aspects of moving into an apartment and what things are involved with that. What things to take care of with ties with your family like health care, records, etc. I know many of you that are on your own had to go through this at one time so if you could tell me about what things I should know or if you have tips I'd be forever in your debt for you telling me. Like I know it can't be as simple to get an apartment as just putting the cash in the guys hand and walking in, right? There is always leases and stuff like that.
Can you get your adoption records in a life threatening situation? My ex husband is also adopted. He was adopted thru Catholic Charities in Illinois. When he reached 18 he was given non-identifying info on his first parents. He wanted to find his first mother but was told it would be $35 an hour for them to look for her (he would not be given any info) and then they would require counseling before they would facilitate the reunion. He has never had the money for the search, but now he is desperate. He has been having medical problems that could be life threatening. The Drs are still testing him for several things, and some of the possibilities are heriditary and so if he knew he had a family history, those tests would be ran first. Does anyone know if he can obtain records now that he has a medical reason to have them? If so how does he go about getting them?

Should companies be allowed to use your family health records to determine your coverage and rates? I was reading recently that insurance companies are now using family history to calculate rates and even deny coverage where they can perceive a loss or bad investment. I believe most corporate employees are protected from such scrutiny and must be allowed to join group policies except where pre-existing conditions allow the insurance company to opt out. But, self-employed or employees of say a small private school may not he able to obtain reasonably priced coverage because their Mom's dad had a heart attack, colon cancer, etc...
