What would you do to wear a treasured heirloom at your wedding? I know that this may seem to be a shallow question, but I was given a pair of beautiful pearl earrings by my aunt for my wedding. This is wonderful because they were worn by my great-grandmother Ruth to her wedding. (She must have been VERY outlandish in those days to have worn pierced earrings!) The thing is - my ears aren't pierced. I know, I know, it is almost shocking to see a woman who doesn't have pierced ears anymore. It's not that it is "against" any moral, religious or personal codes that I hold dear, it's just that I haven't done it. I would love to wear the earrings (what an honor) but would it be wise to have them pierced so soon before the wedding? The wedding is on Good Friday, right at a month from now. Any advise? Thanks from a very honored, yet nervous bride-to-be.
Oneida 'Heirloom' Stainless Flatware: How Do I Remove Scratches + Signs of Wear? Decided to downsize from 1 set fancy China, Silver and Crystal plus 1 set "everyday" to just One set for everything and found in using my Oneida Heirloom "Stainless steel" (Julliard pattern) every day - it quickly showed signs of wear and lots of scratches on the tips of the forks (where knife was used to cut near it) and on some spoons. Easy to tell which spoon got used for twirling spaghetti due to the resulting scratches left from the fork tips! Is there any way to get rid of these marks? Thanks very much for any suggestions! It is not 100% stainless steel. The Oneida website lists it as "18/10 Stainless Steel flatware"... for people like me who can't afford real silver (and don't want to polish it.). I've tried emailing them with no reply yet.

Thoughts?

Hi - Is there a way for me to know the difference between genuine stones & rhinestones without special tools? I can't tell the difference between the real thing verses cubic zirconia, rhinestones, etc. I have a lot of old jewelry to price - some to sell & some to keep and pass down as family heirlooms. Besides stones, I cannot tell the difference between genuine pearls and fake ones. I also have a hard time telling genuine silver & gold apart from other metals. Some of the pieces have makers marks and in those cases, I can usually find out what I have. Unfortunately, most of my pieces are not marked. Any help would be very much appreciated!
