family records .? Here's a pretty cool story... My best friend and I have been friends for a long time and one day our parents were discussing where they grew up.. a small town in kentucky called vanceburg got brought up and my mother and her father both had family there. This town was extremely small so it would be extremely coincidental.. well it is. My friend's grandfather revisited Vanceburg(where his family rooted in) and he found out in some records that a a (my mom's maiden name) and a (her last name) got married in the late 1800's time. Unfortunately, my friend's grandfather passed and we would like to find some proof that we are related(perhaps distant cousins). I have done my share of research and it seems as if every website that's tracking vital records costs. I'm willing to find out info on our relation, but I'm not willing to pay. Here's the question: does anyone know any websites where I can track vital records for free? Perhaps through the government? Please comment or share any information on any way i can do some research. Thank you!! (if possible links would be great.)

Keeping family records to pass along to future? So, geneology is very important to me. I am very interested in my family history, and family future. I was thinking about buying a family Bible, and maybe doing a will. What else could I? Give me some ideas on this. Website links helpful as well.

How to start archiving family records and documents? My mum has box loads of documents from my grandparents, and their parents. There are lots of photographs, letters and other bits that are interesting as a family history. However, if these are just left in the boxes they will deteriorate, and in time just get chucked which would be a real shame. How can these documents best be archived so they can be used in the future? They need to be sorted - but how? and how to preserve them? is cross-referencing worth it? Any ideas or help would be received gratefully

Should companies be allowed to use your family health records to determine your coverage and rates? I was reading recently that insurance companies are now using family history to calculate rates and even deny coverage where they can perceive a loss or bad investment. I believe most corporate employees are protected from such scrutiny and must be allowed to join group policies except where pre-existing conditions allow the insurance company to opt out. But, self-employed or employees of say a small private school may not he able to obtain reasonably priced coverage because their Mom's dad had a heart attack, colon cancer, etc...

Can I obtain copies of police records regarding a family members's death? I have no idea how this works.. An estranged family member whom I had been trying to find, died tragically a couple of months ago. The police ruled it as a suicide, but there are flying rumours that it was murder and the police didn't 'have time' (I was notified not by the police, but by friends of the deceased). I need answers and want to see everything they have in their files. I would like to get copies of what they have (ie. note by the deceased, autopsy results, police record, ect). For example, only friends of the deceased can tell me if the writing on the note is really my family member's...but the police will only allow family members to view anything.... If requested, can I have copies of this stuff, or do they refuse and keep everything? Can they refuse to show me anything (ie. death scene pictures)? What are the boundaries? Sorry... I'm still learning the wee details of this ask/answer stuff...I was trying to figure out how to delete the other one or at least edit it. Couldn't figure it out until now... Some people responded as to whether or not I can see the stuff. I know I can see it. I am asking if I can OBTAIN copies of what they have...

Genetic genealogy or Family Records? I am a filipino, with a long line of ancestors who came from different places. Both my mother and my father are filipino, but my mom tells me she has more influence from spain and my dad says he has more influence from the chinese( I know because I have the eyes while my cousins don't express the trait). I am a real amatuer at genealogy and I would like to go further to find out who I am. http://asnic.utexas.edu/asnic/countries/philippines/philippines.html (This link talks about filipinos and how we were influenced) I heard that genetic DNA tests (Genetic genealogy) is very useful for finding your roots such as Family Tree DNA The classic way of finding your origins are from Records. However, I don't think I will get that far. I live in the United States, while most of my family members live in the phillipines. I have asked them about any records and they can't help me. So what should I do if I have limited information with records, but could go further with genetic genealog

I dont undestand family records? it says the name then has a number?? I found a free website that has free family records, my great grandfathers name was william henry hale, I looked on this site and images came up of the record. It had a million names I scrolled through and found my great grandfathers name, but all it had was his name and a number like 7b 1196, thats it? I dont get it because I know his name so why would I wanna see a page with his name??? does the number mean something, am I meant to put it in somewhere??
