how do you get a REAL family tree TREE and not a family tree CHART? I need a family tree for school, but it can't be a pedigree chart. So I Google family tree and all I get is pedigree charts, so I'm stuck.
Is there a computer program that can make a reverse family tree / genealogy chart? I have found a lot of programs that help make the usual family tree chart, however I can't seem to find any that will make a reverse genealogy chart. (Starting with the oldest couple in the family and then going forwards to include their children, and children's children, etc.) Does anyone know of a program that will do this?

What is the best free software (not demo only!) to use for family tree charting and related genealogical work? I used smart draw but it's a demo only, I got a pdf print before the expiry but I don't want to do all that work again many times over. Have you ever looked at a genealogy chart or family tree and gotten really depressed? All they list is the name, date born and date died. It's like that person's life was over with in a blip...of no consequence at all, just some "event".

When charting family trees, how would you chart kids born from extramarital affairs honestly but sensitively? I enjoy charting out my family tree, but in so doing, I've found a branch here and there where one of the kids in a marriage does not belong to the husband due to an extramarital affair. I was told to just list the kid as a child of the married couple's anyway, "just because". But I want the chart to be accurate. Is there a "most tactful way" to do this so that it can be shared with the rest of the family? When it comes to kids that both people brought into the marriage with them, that's a different story. That can be plainly stated. But how can you say, "X and Y had six kids together, and X also had a seventh kid to another person while still married to Y" in the least "volatile" way?

Family tree, what to include? Should my family tree (genealogical chart) on my mother's side of the family include both her mother and father, my grandparents? Reason I ask is because they were separated not long after grandma gave birth to my mother and her sisters and brothers. When printing out Family Tree charts, the boxes are printing black.? Using 'Generations'. It is set so that the boxes show white on the screen, but still print out black. Tried it on 2 printers. Used to be OK.
family tree? my in-laws are celebarating their 50th wedding anniversary this May. I would like to make a collague for them and in the middle put a family tree. so i went in search of one on-line that i could fill in and print out. I found charts and fans, etc. but no trees. you know the ones that you put their names in the trunk then add the kids to the branches. I found some software ($200) i don't mind paying something but that is to much. then i found a site where a lady makes them on canvas ($300) i even tried scarpbook stores and only seem to find some that a child might use. I have researched my partners back to 1778 which makes up 10 generations. However, I have also come across something that I believe has taken me back to 1524. But I am yet to look properly and confirm this. Other lines will probably be filled in time. I have many years to do so :-)
Can anyone recommend a family tree program that has an all-in-one photo wall chart ability? I use legacy as my primary genealogy program and used agelong to print wallchart reports....I loved agelong...it was fantastic.....I could include absolutely everyone in one chart, WITH A PHOTO, direct ancestors, ancestral uncles and aunts, cousins, siblings, spouses, etc.... and prune it as I wished, then save it as a jpeg or anything else i wanted and print it out with my printer. I could even save my whole gedcom, with the pictures included into an agelong data file. Some programs "seem" to offer the same thing, but they are being very tricky with their wording....some programs will only let you print it with their printing service....or they won't let you save the chart as an image etc...legacy 7 seems to offer this, but on closer inspection, not.....again, family tree maker seems to offer it...but then again.....anyway, my version of agelong isn't vista friendly anymore, and my version of legacy is a bit old, so looking for an all in one....i've been looking for hours....anyone know of anything?

Tree Chart on iWork for Mac? I know there's a way to do it on Powerpoint, but I'm trying my hardest to stay away from the Microsoft programs. What is it with the amount of Scorpio suns in my Family Tree? Out of all the charts of my ancestors that I have been able to get a hold of (51 in total, so the average for every sign would be about 4, perhaps 5), TWICE the average are in Scorpio! Which is - according to my new Astro-toy - 19%. Libra is next in line with 7 suns. The one with the least suns is Capricorn... and that Capricorn sun is my dad. Now, seeing the theory of when people procreate most, the majority of sun signs in one sign is pretty logical, BUT... The majority of MOON signs is in AIR! About 38% of it; 14% in Gemini, 14% in Libra and 10% in Aquarius... I am getting to a point here, just bare with me... There have been books about the reoccurence of certain astrological patterns in direct family lines - I don't have my entire family tree and most of the results come from my mother's mother's side, but there's definitely starting to form a pattern... what do you think? Have you experienced the same in your family? LOL!!! I just spent 3-4 hours looking through my direct family tree - myself, my parents, their parents, THEIR parents etc... The majority of them has died already. I wonder how many family tree researchers consider the change of dates,months because of.....? the change from the Julian Calendar to the Gregorian. It suddenly occurred to me this morning that people in my tree who died hundreds of of years ago were not actually born in the months that we know them to be now. Even more disturbing was the fact that when I looked up the date change from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar that it was not implemented immediately by all Countries and that there was a gap of nearly 500years in a lot of Countries before they changed to the Gregorian calendar..... the one we use today. The time frame we are looking at is Oct 4th( Julian) Oct15th(Gregorian) 1582 in Italy to the last country to change being Romania in 1919. The Great Britain and its colonies then didn't change until Sept 14 1752. And in the USA there were three dates: British Colonies 1752, Spanish colonies 1584, and Alaska Oct 18 1867. I have shown a chart of the Countries and varying dates the calendar changed. How do I register my dog as an AKC? My dog is a one year old purebred Basset Hound puppy. I got him through a local breeder, he came with papers, family tree chart, and register papers but their not AKC. I would someday love to make him a STUD. I know its a lot of hard work and I know the purpose of breeding and yes I think he qualifies because hes worth it; he has perfect temprament, very good nose, very healthy and he looks like a very good looking Basset Hound. Has anyone else used ancestry.com to track their lineage? I find that it is absolutely amazing...? I recently started talking to my mom's side of the family again. (We have only spoken a few times in the last 20 years, since my mom's funeral actually). So, I saw an advert for this site and I starting putting in all the info, then I asked my Gram and she has a chart with 12 generations already mapped out that she is going to mail me. How do you chart your family tree? Do you use a book to record everything? I am really excited!
Do you know a website that shows a chart showing the origins of all Protestant denominations? I'm looking for something that is organized like a family tree. For example some denominations broke away from Lutheran, then that one split into 2 more, etc. By the way, in case someone doesn't know what I mean by Protestant, I mean non-Catholic and non-Orthodox Christian. Heavy metal chart? Does anyone know if there is a site where you can get a copy of the Heavy Metal "family tree" from either the "School of Rock" movie or the new VH1 show that just aired? Those look interesting...thanks!
What is the origin of the surname "Polanco?"? I have seen the name on many census charts posted online, and a reference on one of the coats of arms sites that this surname is German? I find this unlikely as this surname is Hispanic in use. I cannot find anything else and all I would like to know is the origin and meaning of this surname, not track an entire family tree!
