Legacy Family Tree Genealogy Software Knowledge Base

Which genealogy software? Can anyone give recommendations or testimonials to different family tree/genealogy software? More specifically Family Tree Maker, Legacy, or RootsMagic. Thanks! When I look into Family Tree Maker everything I see says that it works best with purchasing membership to Ancestory.com, but I can get free access to that from the library.
What Genealogy Software Would You Recommend? I am looking to purchase some sort of genealogy software, and I wanted to know which would be my best bet. Legacy, Family Tree Maker and Roots Magic seem to be popular when I do searches, but I want to hear what people who have used the software have to say. If you coud please write your recommendation and reason that would be great.
Can you search for ancestors with genealogy software? My boyfriend is very much interested in genealogy and I want to get him a genealogy gift for Christmas. If I buy him genealogy software, such as Legacy, will he be able to search for ancestors? Or is genealogy software only a way to organize family trees? Also, what is a good genealogy search site that I could buy him a subscription to? Thanks for any help.
Genealogy Software that can handle 63,000+ individuals withouth errors? I have used Family Tree Maker for about 13 years. Over the past several it has started to have problems (due to the large number of people in the tree), such as not allowing me to use the "relationship calculator" and so forth. This was annoying, but the over all program was still functional. Recently it has also stopped allowing me to attach disconnected sections of the tree together. This is untenable. Yesterday I finally found the missing link between two sections that I have spent a long time looking for. Family Tree Maker will not allow me to connect these two direct ancestral lines together because "a person in your family file has too many ancestors." I have talked to customer support and they don't seem to know what to do to fix this issue. The current version I have is Family Tree Maker 2005. I have tried 2006 also and it gives me the same error message. I don't want to buy another program and then have it also not work! Is there another program, preferably a later edition of Family Tree Maker, which will allow me to do these things even if I have a big file? My current file size is 63,933 individuals, but I add more every day, so that is likely to go up. I have experimented with competitor brands over the years, including Legacy and Family Tree Builder. So far, I have found Family Tree Maker to be the best but will not remain brand loyal if they fail to allow me to continue with my research!
