Is the Company Family Tree DNA legitimate & what is the benefit of the YDNA67 test over the YDNA37 test? Hi all. I have been searching my family tree for years and have decided to organise at least one combined YDNA37+mtDNAPlus test with either a family member or myself. I have two questions a) Has anyone actually done this thru Family Tree DNA to confirm they are legitimate and b) What is the extra benefit of doing the extra 38-67 markers test?

Has anyone tried that Family Tree DNA? There is a site called Familytreedna.com and you order some test kit where you take your DNA and send it to the company in which they test to see where you came from I guess your heritage. I am not totally sure but I wanted to know more info. If anyone has done this what type of results do they show? which Test kit is right for me? they have like 7 different kits which is confusing. Hope someone can explain more about this process and what results they find out.
Family Tree DNA vs Ancestry.com vs dnaproject which is better? Trying to decide if I should order a genealogy DNA. Does anyone know if I order from one company (say familytreedna) can I use the results with other sites like ancestry, etc?? Or can you only use the results from the site/company you go with?

DNA Family Tree Testing? I wanted to purchase the DNA testing that was done on a show with some celebrities that showed the percentage of all the different blood lines from the different ethnicities. Does anyone remember who the show was using? I found some, but I don't think they use percentages like Emmit Smith had in his testing on the show.
DNA tests for family tree, any recommendations? If you have done this please tell me how pleased you were with your results & the company which provided this service.
How long does it take to receive DNA results? For my graduation project I wanted to test my brothers Y-DNA through Family Tree DNA ( most likely I would order the test with the 37 STR markers). Because the project has strict deadlines I need to know how long it takes to get your results after sending your kit.
How to find records or newspapers on the a town and building? any tips on DNA, ancestry or family tree? I'm doing a project and doing a whole background on myself. I would really like to find old pictures, records and news paper clippings on the town where I lived. I've heard of people going to the library to look through records and newspapers but I have no idea what to ask for or if that's possible. I also would like to find old pictures or records on the hospital I was born in. Any tips or information would be great. Also for this project I'm hoping to make a family tree and I'm super interested in National Geographics Genealogy project but I don't have any money for that so any tips on family trees or where to go to look up people (I heard you can go to court houses for things like that but again I don't know) would be fantastic. I would like to do all of this for free by the way. Any information is appreciated! Thanks in advance. :)
Is it worth getting a DNA test to search my family tree? I've been reading many websites that say you can trace your family origins using DNA testing, how effective is this? and what is your personal experience of using this method? I don't think you understand the question, I'm not looking to see who's my closest relation. I'm talking about the new branch of family research, tracing your ancient ancesters such as on Ancestry.co.uk see below: http://landing.ancestry.co.uk/offers/uk/dna.aspx For want of a better word they call it: Genetic Genealogy "Whilst having your DNA identified, are you then going to have potential ancestors exhumed from their graves in search of a match ? It is not a practical thing to do. Better off with records. I am back to 1762 with my lot, and discovered I am about 214th in line to the Earl of Tavistock, but I am not going to dig the poor soul up to prove it !" do people read the question before answering? Genetic Genealogy is about tracing your ancient origins, ergo if you had a test you might have ancient ancestors from Holland or Scotland. It works by comparing your sample with the established DNA marker for that region, you can trace your Haplogroup. For more information on this see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haplogroup
I know little of my family history. Can I have my DNA looked at to determine my ancestry? I only know a sliver of my family tree. I know there's a science to tracking DNA profiles for ancestry. Is this accessible to anyone in the general public?
I plan to have my DNA analyzed. I understand that there are two major companies that do this sort of ? thing. One is called Family Tree DNA, and the other is called Ancestry.com. If you have had experiences with these companies, please tell me about their services and if you were pleased with them. Which one would you suggest?
How to trace my family tree? I've tried to trace it online, however, all I've found is that my family originates from Suffolk, England. Well, I already knew that, so, is there a way to trace my tree even further back than that? Since my surname only goes back a few hundred years it's quite difficult. Would it require some sort of genealogy/DNA test? Thanks.
What DNA test for genealogy purposes gives you the most bang for your buck?Tracing your family tree? I'm tracing my family which comes from all over northern Europe, thought it would be interesting to have it done by DNA analysis. Has anyone on here tried that? I want my brother to give DNA but I think he listens to too much Glenn Beck and he won't do it. That side of my family has the Masons and I wanted to see how far back they are in what area. That Haplog group is the Artisans, my Mom's is the travelers so I think there's a drop from every Northern European country.
How can you trace your family tree as far back as possible? Like genealogy? What do you have to do? Websites that explain it? I want to trace my family. What do I need to do? I have to pay? Can I just take some sort of DNA test? QUESTIONS, QUESTIONS, QUESTIONS AH!
Comparing DNA results? Any where I can go? I have done a 25 marker test on family Tree DNA but was assuming there is some sort of central site as people get tests done all over. Would like to compare mine t o others out there to see who I related to. Thanks for any info.
How can i trace back my family tree to like a few hundred years? I know that Oprah Winfrey payed to get a DNA test that traced her roots back to a tribe in Africa. Where can I do that? Is it expensive? Both of my parents were born in Mexico and all I know is that my mom's mom is half Spanish and half French. Her dad's last name is Viruette and her mom's last name is Quintero. I would like to know from what Aztec tribe I came from and what parts of Spain and France.
Family genetics DNA test? I'm really interested to know my family tree and where I come from. What does a family genetics DNA test show exactly? What did you think of your results? And does it show the family line from both the mother and the father's family or just one? Thanks in advance and any other info on this is very welcome! =]
family history dna results? ive just had my dna family history results, and ancestry has matched me with descendants from the usa,im now confused as i thought the results only come from the male descendants but none of the matches have got my surname.the matches are said to be from 12 generations ago about 300 to 400 years ago,im from the uk so does that mean some of my family went to usa 300 to 400 years ago,i have got back with my family tree to 1750s so if i went back a few more generations perhaps i could find who emigrated,.im still confused to who they could be,would they have the same ggggggrandfather as me,or maybe they are related to a someone who marryed into my tree???
What DNA service works the best? I want to know my family tree, what DNA service works the best?
whats the best dna site ??? most accurate? dna tribes, 23 and me, decode me, family tree dna ? whats the best and most accurate of all? especially for tracing everything? from y chromosomes mtdna to autosomal etc?
Difficult Family Tree to Unearth? Hello. I'm looking for help regarding my current "fascination". I'm in my 30s, so in my opinion I'm starting a little late. But, as I have infertility issues, and I will not be able to pass on my family name or DNA, I'm doing my family tree instead so I have a little something to hold onto until I've passed away (hopefully years and years from now). However, I recently (in the past five years or so) discovered that my grandfather was adopted. Yet, nobody in the family is willing to discuss it, and I can't get any answers from anyone----how am I supposed to even begin doing that side of my family tree? Should I just go with his adoptive parents and list them on the family tree as if they were biological? What would you do? :) Thanks for any information and/or suggestions.
To hire someone to search my great grandmother? Will they find more than me? Many people I email from family tree dna end up replying stating they are working for said family. I am curious if these professionals have better resources, considering everything available online. Anyway what I am most after is a little info on my great grandmother's birth town in Poland and her immediate family. Most I found is records when she came to the US. What do you recomend?
What DNA tests are best for me in regards to identification of dominant ethnicities? I do not know where my father is and my mother's side of the family has mostly educated guesses about our ancestry. All the family I know of are substantially more European looking, though I am quite sure we do have some ancestry native to the Americas. I only have surnames going back to my great grandmother at most, and I am told that most of the records regarding my relatives were probably destroyed or lost in the Mexican revolution, perhaps their names were even changed. In my research, connections with Castilian Spanish, Visigoth, French, Sicilian, and Basque are most likely. But I am at the point where I would like to have more concrete biological evidence as to what ethnicities I am linked to and by what percentages. I realize that having Mexican heritage might make it more difficult because they are a highly mixed population. I would like your suggestions as for what tests to take and any relevant information about the tests below that I am considering. DNA Tribes to find out ethnic breakdown of autosomal dna corresponding to geographic area For Y and MT DNA I am looking at The Genographic Project from National Geographic, Family Tree DNA, and Ancestry.com . They all seem to offer about the same thing for the 12 marker test (am I wrong about this), though I did notice Family Tree DNA seems to offer more upgrades like the deep subclade test, which I am not sure is available for the others. Opinions on these? Thank you. Also, what does the amount of markers you buy improve in terms of being able to identify your probable ethnicities? Or is 12 enough for this purpose, and the additional markers are only used to verify you are related to someone in relatively recent times?
Can a DNA test tell me what countries my ancestors came from? I'm fairly certain I've researched 3/4 of my family tree. Seeing as how my grandmother was adopted, I do not know her heritage. I'm getting past the point of hoping for name verifications to actually trace her parents, grandparents, etc. The details seem to have been lost to history. I've considered a DNA test (probably from Family Tree DNA) to try to figure where my grandmother's ancestors came from/lived in Europe. This is my dad's mother, for what it's worth. I know that I have German, French, and Luxembourger roots for sure. Anything else is speculation. I feel I've done a reasonable job figuring out that 3/4 of my family tree came to the US from those 3 countries. Anything else is speculation from family members. Are there any DNA tests that will show results that say my roots are German, French, Luxembourger, and (insert other countries here)? I'm hoping that if a country shows up that I wasn't expecting, I might be able to say it's possible/probable my grandmother was of that ethnicity. I've done some reading on DNA tests, but I'm a bit confused as to whether or not it will list countries like this or even which test to order. Please help! Thank you!
DNA and Genealogy? Where to start? I came back from Europe interested in working on my family tree. I have gotten online and read about Family Tree DNA and Ancestry.com and came away with my mind boggled! I understand the concept of "Genetic Cousins," which seems to be the biggest thing in Genealogy for those who want to go beyond what records allow them to. But, I am confused about who offers what, the benefits of testing all available markers through DNA, and what services will best benefit my research. Ancestry.com states you can post test results from other companies in one section, and in another section states you can't post Family Tree DNA tests. Should I get DNA tests done with one and complete research with another? Am I missing options I should know about? Where do I begin? How do I maximize results without testing with each and every site, and spending a fortune doing it! I would also like to know about software options I have to extend my Genealogy Research further, and if picking and belonging to a specific online site would limit or expand options for software? What are my best software options?
Reading DNA Project information? I have an ancestor named Churchwell Jackson, Sr. He was born in 1758 in Orange County, VA. He came out of the woods at the Battle of Kings Mountain and there's no documentation of him before that. I Googled his name to see what new developments there were on him, and found the Jackson page from the Family Tree DNA Project. This is found at http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Jackson/default.aspx?section=results There are several people in the study who match Churchwell Jackson as the common ancestor. But the page includes this information: The following Kits within this Jackson Group match at 37 markers to the Jackson surname as well as the following three other surnames as follows: …..46298 – JACKSON with matches to BLACK, HENRY & SINCLAIR surnames …..61325 – JACKSON with matches to BLACK, HENRY & SINCLAIR surnames …..N3392 – JACKSON with matches to BLACK, HENRY & SINCLAIR surnames …….7020 – JACKSON with matches to BLACK, HENRY & SINCLAIR surnames .…..12604 – JACKSON with match of only the BLACK surname .…..51855 – BLACK with matches to JACKSON & HENRY surnames .…..46976 – HENRY with match of only the JACKSON, BLACK & SINCLAIR surnames What does all of this mean? Did our family change its name and should we now be looking for Churchwell Black, Henry or Sinclair?
Genetic genealogy or Family Records? I am a filipino, with a long line of ancestors who came from different places. Both my mother and my father are filipino, but my mom tells me she has more influence from spain and my dad says he has more influence from the chinese( I know because I have the eyes while my cousins don't express the trait). I am a real amatuer at genealogy and I would like to go further to find out who I am. http://asnic.utexas.edu/asnic/countries/philippines/philippines.html (This link talks about filipinos and how we were influenced) I heard that genetic DNA tests (Genetic genealogy) is very useful for finding your roots such as Family Tree DNA The classic way of finding your origins are from Records. However, I don't think I will get that far. I live in the United States, while most of my family members live in the phillipines. I have asked them about any records and they can't help me. So what should I do if I have limited information with records, but could go further with genetic genealog
Surname Bailey, need help with family tree.? Can someone tell me where the surname Bailey comes from? I have read it comes from England, Scotland, Ireland, Norway.. I'm black so.. I guess the merge happened in America? no idea. Do those DNA tests work? Do you need to already have your family tree mapped out for the DNA tests to work? We registered for ancestry.com but without pre existing knowledge it was useless. I'm hoping someone with better resources (other than just doing a Google search) can help me. If you are reading this after this has closed and have some info please email me by clicking my username, this email will always work.
What species of mammals are closest genetically to human beings after the great apes and other primates? As I understand it humans are most closely related to chimpanzees and then gorillas, orang utangs, gibbons, baboons, monkeys, lemurs and other small primates in more or less that order. In the mammalian genetic framework what comes next? After primates what is the relationship to say, rodents, canids, felines etc...Has a genetic-dna family tree of mammals been constructed? Thanks for the really intelligent and scientific answers so far....
Why isn't my Great Great ...Auntie Acient Ape relatives showing up on my Ancestors family tree? Is it because the Ancient apes DNA has no connections what-so-ever to that of humans?
How can I find out about my family tree? I recently found out that I'm part Indian and I even found the tribe my family is from. How do I find out how much Indian I am? Or for that matter, how can I find out about my family tree? I have herd about places where you send them your DNA and they tell you who is in your family. Anyone know?? To Wendy C: Ma'am, My father informed me of the tribe our family is from and even gave me a few names to look up, although he said he wasn't completely sure that he got the names right. He also told me to talk to his mother. So, I'm calling my grandma tomorrow to ask her all the info she might know. By the way, the tribe I'm from is Bella Coola.
Family Tree Help?!?!?!? i want to know my family tree....like back to the 1800's! or before that.....isnt there somewhere i could send my DNA to and find out all this information? please leave a link if you know...
I'm stuck tracing my family tree, how should I continue my research on my family tree? I'm Mexican, and my main concern is finding out more about my mother's family tree. My mother and her mother (my grandmother) have many stories about how difficult it was back then being a Christian in a country dominated by Catholics. But that's not where the story ends. My mother nad I visited Israel a few years ago, and we were astounded that everyone in Israel called us by my grandmother's last name. Everyone thought we were Jewish, we were even invited to go into the tunnels under the Temple in Jerusalem. People who know Israel, know those tunnels are not for tourists, but we were invited to go inside. When we got back to Mexico, we called my mother's aunt (my grandmother's sister,) she's 96 years old, but she gave us a lot of information. The mother of my grandmother was Jewish, she was sent from Spain to Mexico when she was a little girl all by herself to be raised in a Catholic convent in order to convert her to Catholism. But we know very well that she never converted, and instead converted to Protestanism. I've always known that my family was one of the first Protestant familes in my town in Mexico. It doesn't surprise me that they were never able to convert a member of my family into Catholism. I searched Spanish History, indeed the Spanish used to tear apart Jewish families at the time my grandmother was sent to Mexico. The Spanish would take away children from Jewish parents, and sent them to Mexico to Catholic convents. My great-grandmother was a heroic woman, she never bowed down to a Catholic idol, instead she became a Protestant. Since the Jewish line goes through the mother, that would make me Jewish. That would explain why everyone in Israel thought I was Jewish. And that would explain why my mother and I were offered to go inside the tunnels under the Temple. However, I don't know if my great-grandmother was Jewish by blood or religion. How should continue my investigation? Should I get a DNA test to see if I have the Abraham Genome? or Should I travel to Spains to see if I can find more about my Jewish great-great-parents?
Help with family tree...Where does the name Radford come from? Also where could I find death records from the first deaths of the first families to America? Like Elswick, Wright, Radford, Prince. I really want to do a family tree but don't know where to begin. I asked a question about my Elswick and Wright name. Well I changed my name to Mike Zion in Jan. 06 so the name Zion doesn't have any thing to do with Zionism or anything. So how expensive is it for blood test to find DNA like they did to this guy on the History Channel to tell him all the places his ancestors are from? By the way I don't know who my true father is. Birth name Dale Kim Wright Elkhart IN Name changed to Henry Elswick Jr. After I was brought to West Virginia by my (father?) Bill Elswick. Mother's birth name Barbra Wright How can I learn about my grandfather who was in the Navy and my grandmother? My wife's birth name Leshia Radford. Mae has some records I could use for help. Prince is an old name in her side of the family.
How to track your Family Tree...? I have been trying to do a family tree for my daughters, so they know who they are and where they come from. But my side and my husbands side is very complicated. His father's side starts in 1942, out of the blue. It is believe that his family was Jewish and they burned/destroyed all their documents showing that they were in fact Jewish to escape Nazi Germany and immigrate to the USA. My mother's side is known for being Native American. But we don't know if we are Native American American or Native Canadian American. Her mother's mother (grandmother) had been married over 5 times and moved back and forth between Canada and Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. I'm 1/4, my girls are 1/8, but we just want to know, where we are from! Is it worth to hire some professional and shell out a lot of money? Does the ancestry.com DNA test really work? Am I wasting my time? Where should I start? Ancestry.com doesn't even list any of my family, dead or alive!
how can current DNA tests tell me my ancestors who were never tested? Some research firms claim that they can tell my family history lines by DNA test which I submit. My ancestors were never tested. Are such claims valid. If I submit a test swab, without additional information, can they tell my family tree?
How can I get a DNA report to trace my ancestry. I did the free 1 with Sorrenson, but no detailed info given. I have traced my roots back ten generations to my Great, Great, Great Grandmother Nancy McKinney, who had children with her slave master who came to America from Scotland. this is where I am stuck. I'm hoping that DNA results will help me find out where she was from. I've seen stories of people tracing there roots back to Africa or other places. I really would like to know where Nancy came from before she was bought as a slave by Moses McKinney Jr. in Georgia, Then they moved to Coosa County Alabama. This is where many of my relatives still live today. I've visited the county court house there and received most of my research there. I am stuck and would really like help. I am already a member of Ancestry.com and that has helped expand my Family Tree to over 2000 members and down to 10 generations. Please help if you can. Thank you
Im trying to create a family tree and get stuck after 3 generations.? My family is from (by all accounts) the israel/palestine region. The rumor in the family is that my father grandfather changed his last name during the british mandate and sadly my grandfather passed when I was too young to ask questions. Im stuck as to how I can research my roots when I myself am only a first generation american. My mother is traveling overseas next month and i plan to give her a list of questions to ask all of our older relatives in hopes of getting names of family. Does anyone have suggestions on how I might be able to gather information due to the colonial period and prior? I know that some of my family fled to lebanon and jordan in 1948 and 1967 but we never heard from them again. I fear if i don't get these answers soon they may be lost as the oldest generation in my family hits their 80's and 90's. I have considered doing DNA testing to prove/disprove another rumor in the family (that my fathers side came from albania/macedonia/greece) but not seriously My family is palestinian christian on both sides, there is no real naming scheme (abu or ibn). I think the idea of going to the local churches is a good idea. Thanks for all the advice, the more the better.
What hurting our American dreams, People or Limbaugh ? Limbaugh is only one individual, but evil sleeper cells are over 12 million strong in this country. They have criminal genes in their DNA family trees and this is the biggest costs American tax payer have to pay for the peace. These Limbaugh listeners are enemy within, they are protected by constitutions and worse than any Nazi or Taliban. Remember in 1999? people's minds were simply blinded by God, those days, they just have to vote for Bush. And look, what price we are paying today? How's your 401K?
Has anyone considered that past life experiences are actually cell-memory or DNA from millions of past people? Considering our family tree, it has to go back very far and I was wondering how much a blood relitive would have affect on who and what we are now. Any thoughts on this?

Native Americans ( Q ) and Europeans ( R ) are most closely related on the human family tree. Why should we? Chinese people ( O ) care about what they do to each other? Does DNA testing work? Do those DNA tests work? Do you need to already have your family tree mapped out for the DNA tests to work? We registered for ancestry.com but without pre existing knowledge it was useless. I am hoping DNA test would be easier. Who has the best reputation for accurate DNA testing if this process works at all?
Lost Tribe of Israel Hispanic?!? I am really into DNA and Jewish geneaology and found this site: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/10/29/national/29religion.html?pagewanted=print The interview Family Tree DNA stated he was very surprised that he has 1 out of ten hispanics come back with Jewish DNA. Any thoughts on how this started? Jews from Spain? Lost Tribe connection as I seen mentioned before? Goy attack! Run

dna test for native american? Hi I was wondering if anyone is around 12% Native American on a DNA test. My family is suppose to be Irish/French decent. We even have family tree album with all the names birthdates etc. Also I have curly light brown hair that was blonde as a child. I am really proud if this test is right, but how can I be sure? I kinda suspect we may have some spanish but not native american. Do you think 12% is alot? Does anyone else have around that much % and look totally European decent?
What is your Ethnic Family? And is it young? There are exactly only 42 ethnic families the biggest way of differencing people and its not by the vague Idea of races. Ethnic family tree http://img462.imageshack.us/img462/6530/chart83xf.png your either one of them or are mixed ethnicity Ethnic groups are groups within those Ethnic families and there are thousands of them. When I was young I would think I was just black a race but its all lies I made up of these ethnicities What is your ethnicity Im South Africa, Sudan & Tanzania South Africa & Tanzania 1/2 Bantu (Xhosa) 1/2 San (Im not of Bushmen decent but Khoikho) Sudan Nilotic or Ethiopian I dont know but one of them because both are in Sudan Im of 3 ethnic families one of them the oldest in the world! Overall most of mine are old The oldest is San the youngest are both English and Danish. All of you lot had so called 'black' ancestors if you aint African your ancestors looked like this: http://images.google.com/images?q=New%20Guinea%20people&sourceid=navclient-ff&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1B2GGFB_enGB221GB221&um=1&sa=N&tab=wi Basically what youd call black but they aint African. But every single humans ancestors looked like this: San http://www.nissan4x4.co.za/Gallery/Bongani/Kgalagadi1004/photos/6%20Bushmen.jpg They are on top of this tree The ethnic family tree shows this and it was done by using DNA from people worldwide so it aint lies I said im Bantu, San & (Ethiopian or Nilotic). I am not of those nationalities its just where my grandparents are from. My nationality is English but I aint white semetic are Berber and San look like all ethnicities mixed in one because they are the most genetically diverse hence oldest ethnic group of humans
DNA testing to find relatives? i'm working on my family tree and i'm using ancestry.com they have a new thing where you can get your dna tested and they find potential cousins and stuff i was wondering, does this really work? as far as i know, it'll only work if these potential cousins, somewhere in the world, have done this test too the analysis is kinda pricey so what if it doesn't work? that's 100 dollars down the drain! has anyone ever done something like this? did it work? what did the results say? was it worth all that money?
Native American DNA? Hi, I am a bit confused about a DNA test I took a while back. My family has assured me it is wrong and there could not possibly have Native American. The test showed 12% by the way. Also the DNA company who did the test said it may be Asian instead, because the markers are so close. We have a very documented family tree that shows only Dutch,French,Danish,Irish and English ancestors. My mom is from Oklahoma and father from South America, but they are sure of 100%. If if is 12% Native American, this seems to be a very recent ancestor. Does anyone have accurate experience with these tests?
dna test really tell a person race? I ask a relative for my mom`s family tree and it says that her father is from 2 indian groups with abit of white and black thrown in and my mom`s mother has a maternal white grandmother but it doesn`t say who her husband is.yes my family tree came out bad now i have to look for civil documents to know why my relatives came to that island and who marry who.I meet my dads mother when i was a baby and i never meet his father who is still alive his parents don`t contact me and my dad too(dead beat father) i want to know what his parents are,my mom tells me all the time that his dad is indian but now she says she doesn`t know,i believe that he has an east indian background because of his name he has gray eyes and he`s very light(white???),his other kids have different eye colour,is that common among east indians? i want to take a DNA test to find out about my dad`s side and fill in the gap on my mom`s side. Will the DNA test tell me what race my grandparents are?
DNA and the Virgin Mary? If Mary had other children, and she was the mother of the Messiah, then that means her children would share some of the same type of DNA as Jesus. Would it not? If this is the case, can we track down a relative of Jesus today? Does Jesus have a family tree?
DNA tests for heritage/ethnicity: What's the best company and test that gives you the most information? I'm half adopted and I have never met my biological father. I don't look like anyone in my family, my half sister, or birth mother. My whole life I got asked, "Are you adopted?" "What country are you from? ", or "What are you?" and I could never really give a good answer. They would always try to guess. Surveys, tests, and even jobs ask you all the ethnic groups you belong to, and I'm not sure which ones to check. I've heard stories about DNA tests that can tell you specific information, like which countries your relatives are from, or what European, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, Middle Eastern, African, etc. groups that your ancestors belonged to. Can a woman even find out anything about her father's DNA, or ancestors, or only her mother's? Is there a good source for DNA tests like this? I really want to answer these questions. It's not really important, I know we're all human, but everyone has had those days at school as a kid where they told you to give a speech about your family tree. It was really frustrating for me, not really knowing half my family. I just want to feel like a belong to something. Not a cult, lol, but just to feel I come from somewhere. To know who I am. I know who we are isn't determined by the customs of some ancient culture, but it's still fascinating. Is there any way to get information about the father's heritage with a DNA test if you are a woman, or is that not possible. If you've gotten a test, what was the website you visited. Is it general or specific. Does it give percentages, or confirm relation to a particular tribe or group?
What kind of DNA test would I need to find out if a friend of mine and I are to closely related to Date? A friend of mine and me are thought to be closely related, as in before third cousins, to each other due to one someone on my Fathers side of the family. We both found this out before we were about to date and are not allowed to date until we go threw a DNA test. My Dad has drawn back his side my family and found that we should be far enough apart (Threw drawing out our family tree) that it would not matter what would happen between us. Her father is set in stone with us getting a DNA test since there was alot of confusion with adoption and such. So, I have been looking around and do now know what kind of test we would need since I am a boy and she is a Girl. I have found several tests but they are limited to Boy-Boy testing and Girl-Girl Testing. I Would like to know of what kind of test we would need to get and about how much it would cost for the test? if anyone could help I would be very thankful. Also where we would need to go to get tested or to order a test.
Is there a Geneology program that can track my various ethnicities? ? Is there a Geneology program that can track my various ethnicities? I'm of Mexican heritage so its likely I'm multi-racial. I do not want to build a family tree, I just want to test my DNA. Does anyone recommend any programs?
Asking a distant relative for a DNA sample (genealogy)? Hi, Recently I have made contact with my great, great aunt. She is the last living person in America with my Lithuanian great, great grandmother's DNA. The thing is, I want to ask for a DNA sample so I can use it to find other relatives and build my family tree. The problem is that I don't know her very well, but to be honest I'm frightened she may die soon (she is very old) so I want to get it immediately. Has anyone had any experience with this sort of thing? thanks Gen
Should i put this theory in my book? I never majored in science or even minored, so should a lake of my knowledge in science stop me from putting a scienctific theory in a book of psyhcology even though it is based up the birth and evolution of one being in its self? Here it is? When we move down the family tree we start to see that are family could never have come from one singularity or one single branch of DNA. We had two parents those two had four parents and those four parents had eight parents and those eight parents had sixteen parents and those sixteen parents had thrity two parents. (Thats just five generation) Using this concept we must understand that there were many humans walking around at the beganing of earth. Now we come upon the problem how could these people all be the same, there should be deformities when it comes to evolution. Since we can not say that we as creatures on earth are all the same. We must think that we evolved from different formation of dna,(non singularity) each making us what. creature that we are today, but to say that we were all different but started from the same point in time would lead us to deformites of dna and perfect beings as the creatures that we are. If we started at the same point in time life we as just simple being cells that we were millions of years ago would lead us togather to form deformities with each other and there would be nothing keeping us from deforming instead of becomeing better. IF we had all started from one singularity, there would be deformed creatures, there would be no way that evolution could take many creatures and not come up with all these deformites in the human being and other anmals that evoled along with them. If you drew a line and called it the beganing. This line would be non singularity (remember we can not start from a singlularity) since we are all different we would not evolve at all instead deform to the genes that we are spilting from. Over all there would be nothing to stop us from deforming even more. Even if defomities died off, there would still have to be deformities to defomities, leaving us with some specias today with something toatly different than what we as humans have. This is not including the little differences of skin color but should be a bigger change in are apperance such as a hand growing out of some ones elbow there is no reason that it should not be happening as an over all specias?
How accurate and reliable are DNA and paternity tests? I often hear the figure "99.9% plus" quoted but over the years I've learnt to be cautious of claims that aren't decisively backed by peer-reviewed scientific testing; lie-detector/polygraph machines are a good example of scientific evidence being absent despite popular belief. I live in an area where there are literally dozens of people who look so much like me it's creepy; they are obviously distant cousins from somewhere on the family tree and there are a lot of them living in the same town. I've noticed the same trend all over the Country; people from the same district often have similar features. Could this foul DNA profiling? Saying that a person is a "1 in 10 million match" sounds pretty certain but what if the other 60 or so people who are also a match live in the same location? There also seem to be a rising number of screw-ups in laboratories. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/08/20/AR2005082000998.html
If we went back to the beginning of the earth...would we find through DNA that we're all related? http://www.reuters.com/news/video?videoId=88025&videoChannel=1004 Short video about the oldest family tree known.

Where can I find genealogy centres in Singapore? ? I came across genealogy, while I was looking for something regarding my family tree. I have also watched the local news quite some time ago (1-2 years) that there are tests to find out what other races (besides Asian, European etc) our DNA might contain. Wonder if there are any such centres in Singapore that conduct such tests? Are the charges expensive?
How do i know if im adopted? I am 22 years old and my youngest brother is like 38. I just find it odd. I have always been the black sheep. I am wondering how do I find out if I'm adopted? I mean they are still gonna be my parents regardless. I am just curious. I was online looking up my family tree and my brothers came up an ansestery.com but there was no record of me ever being born. I have seen my birth certificate but I recently found out that your original birth certificate can be hidden to where the adopted child will see a birth certificate with the adopted parents as the birth parents. I am just wondering about this. I live in NC. Thanks for any answers. p.s. My parents deny it. So asking them is not an option because I already have. I asked this question earlier and someone suggested I was my brothers kid ans I've always noticed my youngest brother was always nicest to me and spend alot on me at christmas. My mom always tells me i look like him. But i Don't know. I cant afford to get a dna test.
Euro 2.0 DNA testing? Hi, I was wondering my father is from Venezuela and Mom American. We have a family tree traced back to 1800's. Everyone is French,Dutch,Danish origin. (Even my maiden name is French) My Euro came back no French or Dutch at all but 40% Spanish Decent. Should I believe the test or my Family tree. The company seems to be reputable. Thanks!
Why are there no transitional fossils found in geological rock strata? Java man was a hoax. so was piltdown, peking, and scores of others. Lucy was completely chimp. There are no transitional forms between birds and reptiles -- name one and I will personally refute it. What about the family tree of the horse? If you look real closely you will see that the number of ribs in these "transitional forms" jump around without explanation. Also, why do people always turn to Darwin for an explanation? how much research did he do? He studied a couple of birds (finches) that had different beaks? What does that prove? If sombody has proof that a dog can evolve into a cat I may beleive it. DNA testing doesn't prove evolution either. Lets assume that a DNA has only 20 components what are the different arangements possible? There are 2.432902008*10^18 different possibilities. even a simple strand of DNA has many more commponents than just 20. Basically my question is this: Why push this stuff in schools. Why can't all you evolutionists just give a straight answer?
Could someone help me with this? According to my family's family tree, before my European ancestors I have ancestors who were from the Middle East, like the area of Syria and Jerusalem, I know that it is very distant, but do I carry some of their DNA?
Could 'Adam's rib' actually mean part of his DNA strand? Could 'the tree and the apple' be 'family and siblings'? Isn't 'the death' or destruction of natural DNA structures the real sin against life. People say God is all-knowing. He would also know that the bible wasn't written for 2000+ years ago. He would know that it would be translated over time into eternity until the end of the world. Don't discount ideas so quickly. God is much bigger than any church or peacher. Please. The tree means the family tree. The message being that you don't have sex with your family members as that will result in DNA issues. Inbreeding causes retardation etc. haven't you read of what happened to the royal families of Europe and marrying cousins etc? A nuclear war will kill or negatively affect most life on earth because it will affect DNA. Just throwing up ideas.
OK If we are all subject to mind control from the media How do we know if we are really Reds or Blues??? I'm thinking you could Watch the Matrix and wind up being a Blue. Then watch MI 3 and vote Red. The only safe way to live is to get a DNA analysis to find out who you are. Even Ophra is part Chinese. And Bush is closer to the family tree than some people. I heard that When the Iraq war started Chaney gave Bush a jar with a apple in it. So he wouldn't blow the chances to get the oil.
Being that all "races" are descendants of Africans, let's just call all white people African? Or bi-racial? Africa provides a comprehensive and contigious time line of human development going back at least 7 million years. Africa gave humanity the use of fire a million and half to two million years ago. It is the home of the first tools, astronomy, jewelry, fishing, mathematics, crops, art, use of pigments, cutting and other pointed instruments and animal domestication. In short Africa gave the world human civilization. Millions of years ago human life started in Africa, Australopithecus aphaeresis and Australopithecus africanus and Australopithecus robustus were all key rungs in the development of humanity. These fossils were found in East and South Africa (Azania). Some of the fossils may be as old as 5 million years. For example Australopithecus robustus fossils found in an East Turkana Kenya site were at least 4 million year old. It is generally accepted that the Homo habilis were the first full fledge tool makingancestor of humans. The earliest archaeological evidence of toolmaking comes from the Koobi Fora section of East Turkana. These Homo habilis are believed to be at least 2.5 million years old. The name Homo habilis comes from the Leakeys. They found what they believed to be conclusive fossil evidence of the first humans in the Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania and gave these ancestors that name called Homo habilis.. The Olduvai Gorge Homo habilis existed at least a million and quarter years ago More important than tool making in human evolution is the mastery of fire. Nearly 2 million years ago early East Africans had mastered the use of fire. This was a revolutionary step in the development of humanity. This critical innovation insured the survival and spread of the species around the planet. It gave us an advantage over animal predators such as the big cats, hyenas and allowed human settlements in less accommodating climates. These people have been named Homo erectus by archaeologists. It is generally accepted that the final leap from Homo erectus to Homo sapiens sapiens as having occurred in Africa over two hundreds thousand years ago. The Encyclopedia of World History describes the use of mtDNA found in fossils as a means of revealing the processes involved in this final leap. (The acronym mtDNA stands for mitochondrial DNA*.) olecular biologists like Alan Wilson and Rebecca Cann have studied the human family tree using this form of DNA, which is inherited through the female line without being diluted with paternal DNA. Thus, they argue, it provides a unique tool for studying ancestral populations. They compared mtDNA from Africans, Asians, Europeans, and Southeast Asians and found that the differences between them were small. They formed two groups: one was the Africans, the other the remainder. Wilson and Cann concluded that all modern humans derive from a primordial African population, from which populations migrated to the rest of the Old World with little or no interbreeding with existing archaic human groups. By calculating the rate of mtDNA mutations, they argue that archaic Homo sapiens evolved from Homo erectus in Africa by about 200,000 years ago. Then Homo sapiens sapiens, anatomically modern humans, appeared some 140,000 years ago. Mitochondrial DNA is still controversial, but there is some archaeological evidence from Africa that supports the biologists' scenario. Highly varied, early Homo sapiens populations flourished in sub-Saharan Africa between 200,000 and 150,000 years ago, some of them displaying some anatomically modern features. At the Klasies River Caves on the Indian Ocean coast of South Africa, anatomically modern human remains date to between 125,000 and 95,000 years ago. They are associated with sophisticated, versatile tool kits that were, if anything, superior to those used by the Neanderthals in Europe at the time. Many scientists believe that Homo sapiens sapiens, modern humans, did indeed evolve in tropical Africa sometime after 150,000 years ago, as the geneticists argue. Ecologist Robert Foley has theorized that modern humans evolved in a mosaic of constantly changing tropical environments, which tended to isolate evolving human populations for considerable periods of time. Some groups living in exceptionally rich areas may have developed unusual hunting and foraging skills, using a new technology so effective that they could prey on animals from a distance with finely made projectiles. With efficient technology, more planning, and better organization of both hunting and foraging, our ancestors could have reduced the risks of living in unpredictable environments in dramatic ways. source: http://www.bartleby.com/67/24.html *Mitochondrial is defined as: 1. A spherical or elongated organelle in the cytoplasm of nearly all eukaryotic cells, containing genetic material and many enzymes important for cell metabolism, including those responsible for the conversion of food to usable energy. It consists of two membranes: an outer smooth membra well, had racism not been invented and implemented by Europeans, we wouldnt have to always deal wwith the issue of oppression, discrimination, etc...ever consider that?
Wouldn't it be cool to see this on Maury? Egypt To Test Fetuses For Tutankhamun Family Tree CAIRO (Reuters) - Egyptian scientists are doing DNA tests on stillborn children found in the tomb of the Pharaoh Tutankhamun in the hope of identifying their mother and grandmother, who may be the powerful queen Nefertiti, Egypt's chief archaeologist said on Wednesday. British archaeologist Howard Carter found the mummified fetuses when he discovered Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922. Archaeologists assume they are the children of the teenage pharaoh but their mother has not been identified. Many scholars believe their mother to be Ankhesenamun, the boy king's only known wife. Ankhesenamun is the daughter of Nefertiti, renowned for her beauty. "For the first time we will be able to identify the family of King Tut," Zahi Hawass, the head of Egypt's Supreme Council for Antiquities, told Reuters. "This should allow us for the first time to discover the mummy of Nefertiti." Tutankhamun, born in 1341 BC, died less than a decade after taking the throne at the age of eight or nine. Nefertiti had six daughters with the Pharaoh Akhenaten, who abandoned traditional gods in favor of monotheism during his rule from about 1350 to 1334 BC. The queen's mummy has never been identified. The DNA tests and computerized tomography (CT) scans, to be performed at Cairo University, should be finished by December, Hawass said. Egypt has been trying to check the identity of all its royal mummies using DNA and CT scans. Tutankhamun's was one of the first mummies to be examined with the technology in 2005. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/egypt_tutankhamun_dc;_ylt=AklZdV15KVTupPWknT0b_rwDW7oF
How do I convince my fiancee that she is still WHITE? My girl and I where having a conversation some months back about my racial make up. I told her I knew I was mixed but i was mostly black. I'm dominican and she is a white cuban. She's a blonde hair blue eyed white cuban. Her family tree can be traced back to spain or at least thats what she was told. She said I should get a DNA test to find out and it'll be nice to know. So I said we should both get one. But a couple days ago we got the results back. My test revealed i'm 40% european so I was mostly black like I thought. I was cool with the results. My fiancee results read she was 21% african. She was upset. She has been depressed all week. No one in her family looks black at all. But she don't believe she is white anymore. How can I help her because she is still white to me? .
I am not who I thought I am, where do I start? (full detail in post)? Ok so listen to this! For the last what 4 years or so I have been doing family tree research and got involved with a DNA project for my last name. I had paper chart going back to 1600s, well other people that connected to me were interested because all my papers going back to 1600s.. Well someone paid for me to do a longer DNA test (25 marker) since we were not matching right. Well as of this A.M. I was told that I am not related to the tree i thought I was due to name. This is absolute no possibility of mistake either. So now all I have is some numbers telling me where I came from and no papers. I am not really sure where to go from here. I matched a few people that are 2 markers different. Not sure what that means but I emailed them with hopes of anything. 2 out of three were also adopted or had my story. the rest aprox 8 were last name Little. Not sure how to figure this out. I am working backwards. Any help. Sincerely Lost Identity,
AKC approves "Conditional" registrations ...? The AKC just approved a new kind of registration, the "conditional" registration. This is for a dog that appears to be purebred, but their application for registration was refused because there was a "question" about one or more of the dogs in their family tree. In order to get a Conditional Registration, DNA tests on the dog's parents would have to be submitted as proof of their being purebred. A "Conditional" dog may compete in all sanctioned AKC events except conformation (same as ILP). A "Conditional" dog may be bred, and his get would also be able to get a Conditional registration. After the 4th generation, offspring qualifies to receive a regular registration. I know the AKC is doing this purely as a source of income, but (money aside) what do you think? Good idea ... bad idea? My wife is an AKC delegate. We got an email this afternoon. Thanks to those who provided a web link to the information. CLARIFICATION: Under the rules, both the dog's parents would have to be DNA'd. Any dog could be refused a regular registration because there might have been a question about a dog in a previous generation. What does the AKC consider to be a "question"? How often does this happen? I have no idea. Cynthia: the AKC never guarantees quality on any dog they register. That wouldn't change, despite the type of registration they offer.
I want to take a DNA admixture test to see how much or what kind of Native America I am is there such a test? I know we are Native American, but I just started a family tree and i want to learn more about my family. It is a very large family and I feel as though I need to know my origins. This is important to me as there are so many stories that we are not sure are true or not. Thank you in advance for all your help!
Who do you think you are? Im so excited that this is back on with a new set of people. How can I get the telly to do my family tree though? AND give me one of those DNA tests that show Im a bit gypsy or a bit african, or a bit european etc etc??
some please explain this question i am a believer but this makes you think? the bible tells us the savior would come from the lineage of david.if you look at the family tree it goes down to joseph.joseph wasn't Christ's father so dna would not link the two together but it would joseph and Christ's brother.how is this a viable conclusion?
OKay...i need help to re write this theory? If you think there is something wrong with it i need some pinpoints! When we move down the family tree we start to see that are family could have never come from one singularity. There should not be a whole nation of human beings that are all of the same dna stucure. Which would mean to me! That there would have to be built stucures all of the same dna. Or we would mix with others and deform, there by meaning no perfect creation as we are. So instead if we were built perfect, there would be no reason for defomities to take place and there by leading us to the point in time when the family tree was all the same but not in dna?
can you revise my answers please? well i have to take a test and this is the study sheet and i know i got like 8 wrong so can you please help? i put ASD to the one i thought was the answer. Are white Americans so ridiculous to the point of thinking that all them are of pure race? I was talking with one of those typical Americans that think that "latino" is race. I tryed to explain to her that "latinos" (aren't they Latin Americans?) come in lots of different races: blacks, whites, indigenous, mixed race... She told me that "latinos" can't be whites... I asked her why and I showed her pictures of "latinos" that could be easily mistaken with Northern Europeans. She said: "they aren't whites, cause they have native and black blood on them". Let alone the fact that some genetical researches (SCIENCE) showed that a certain percentage of Latin American populations is of unmixed whites. I would like to know if white Americans are sure that are 100% white by blood. Have them ever made a DNA test? Are they so stupid to believe that if you go back 300 years in the family tree of all them they'll find no black or indian? Yes, lol, I'm white wanna be... lol. And also those Latin Americans that are grandson of Italian, they're white wanna be too... lol. And in Latin America there is also the blacks wanna-be and the indigenous wanna be... lol. Even the Asian wanna be, like Alberto Fujimori. "latino", lets call it Latin Americans, (because that's how you call us, I don't know why did you came up with the Spanish word "latino" that has a different meaning that you think). Anyway... Latin American is a person that was born in Latin American. Not a race, not an ethnicity, nothing. Simply as that, ok?
how can i tell all my nationalities? im half mexican and part german and want to know all my nationalities. my last name is garcia and my grandfather(who isnt mexican, white)his last name was robertson. my grandma's maiden name was taber. my mexican grandmas maiden name was ramirez and im not sure what her moms maiden name was. plz give me some sites, dna testing ideas,or ideas on how to make a family tree. thanx!!! im only 13 so tell me if some dna tests r legal too!! thx!!! :]

Are evolutionists still dodging from the Scopes Monkey Trial? During the Scopes Monkey Trial it was a common joke to suggest that someone's ancestors were "monkeys" or "apes". It seems some are adopting a Politically correct term: "ape-like ancestor". It wasn't ape-like, it was an ape. How do we know: cladistics and DNA comparisons. Our closest living relative is the chimp, next is the gorilla, next is the Orang and then the Gibbon. If we did not split off from the same ancestral stock as chimps, we wouldn't be so closely related by DNA. Indeed, if the apes grew off one branch and humans from another, we'd be more closely related to Gibbons and furthest from chimps. All the animals that split off from our family tree before us are apes. That means at least one (and much more likely several) of our ancestral species was an ape. Why try to hide it? Our ancestors weren't "ape-like". Circa ten million years ago they were apes. And the closest living relatives to apes, aside from us, are monkeys. Circa 20 million years ago our ancestors were monkeys. Kjelstad: Pre-Cambrian. Circa 500+ million years ago www.talkorigins.com A very useful resource for more on the human lineage.
Ancestry Research paper...? My final paper is due in about 2 weeks... It is a research paper on my maternal ancestry, the main point is that I have familty tree records that go back to the 1600's but I am also including DNA maternal results to find out who my ancestors are... How should I start it and what should i include? How do I list the family tree or do I just reference it? Any help would be appreciated!!!
