  1. i use the message boards on ancestry.com
  2. You can go to Ancestor.com and look so far before you have to pay.I have done a little research on there myself.
  3. You can find certain information at the Births,Deaths and Marriages site and the Jesus Christ later day saints site,God Luck.
  4. You can use the free bmd section at www.ancestry.co.uk or you could use www.familysearch.org which is the Mormon site it is by far the best free site there is, or you could use your library and your local archives centre. they are completely free to use as well.
  5. Rootsweb.com is a free sister site to ancestry but is ALL Free You will find message boards and other folks trees but no free census info. LDS.org is also free. (Latter Day Saints) For the BEST free access check your local library or even in the next town.. Mine provides free access not only on their computers but also from my home with a membership pin number. Heritagequest, ancestry, How cool is that?!
  6. Hi, I just started my own genealogy search a few weeks ago, and decided to start my own group, listing free sites. If you're interested, here is the name of the group: WhereThePastAndPresentMeet <<yahoo group
  7. Free - around your family kitchen table. Learn all you can from your elders about their parents and grandparents as far back as anyone recalls. You'll need full named, dates and places of births, marriages and deaths. From there you document those 20th century events and will learn even more about the parents of each. Those are basics, although you didn't say what country you're from. The next "free" stop will be your taxpayer-funded public library, family cemeteries, and maybe the nearest LDS family history center. You will need access to census images at the very least. At this point you should be ready to enter the 19th century online, try familysearch.org, ancestry.com, rootsweb.com, maybe find something at genforum.com.
  8. When I started, I used rootsweb.com and then the free portion of ancestry.com. You will get lots of information and leads there. If you ever want to confirm, pay for a subscription to ancestry.com. You will find a ton of official documentation that with further your investigation. It is worth it! Also, ask your family members as many questions while they are still alive, or a lot of information will eventually be buried with them... Have fun!
  9. Check out http://www.familysearch.org Probably the best free online resource. http://www.ancestry.com is one of the best but has a hefty subscription fee. Also, you can check the surname message boards for his surname at: http://genforum.genealogy.com For links to helpful sites, you will want to take a look at: http://www.cyndislist.com And finally for a lot of different resources: http://www.rootsweb.com Good luck, Dave -- http://www.familypulse.org
  10. Information in family trees on any website should be taken as clues not as fact as most is not documented. Even if you see the same information over and over by different submitters, a lot of copying is being done. You need to verify all the information yourself. However, a website should be used as a supplement to research, not as your main source. Granny gave you a very good answer.
  11. I Am Looking for my father Luis A. Torres also my sister Denise Torres
