i would like to do a family tree and trace all my ancestors back a long way, is there any site where you can obtain birth/death certs details free on line or do you have to open an account. Has anyone already done theirs, any tips, please!

- Sign up to genes reunited its about £10 once a member you may find others on there with your ancestors in their tree. Log onto findmypast.com. You will have to pay for most of the searches and certificates so join genes reunited for a good start. good hunting
- Hey Barbara, You have come to the right place, many of us that watch this category have done ours and helped many. Usually Birth and Death Certificates cost money. First place to look is the Town Vital Records (sometimes there is a web site). Then, City, then County, then State. I have some web sites below, but they cost more than a town certificate, as much as 10 times more ($4 versus $40). I use most of the following web sites, but in addition, you should talk to your family, get all the living members, and interview them. Record their information, dates, pictures, wills, probate, etc. Then plot this information in a software program. You can get one for free from Family Search (PAF), or look through the sites provided. There are many many more sites than I am giving you, so, don't think this is all there are. Specialties abound.
- you can search Ancestry.com and see if someone has done your family genelaogy.. As to birth/death certicicates, most counties charge for a copy since they do the look up and reprint for you.
- If you require U.K. birth marriage and death certificates, you can look up your family member on Ancestry or similar site. When you have the the details from the register, you can send away to the address where your relative was originally registered and the copy certificate then only costs £7.00.
- ancestry.com will allow you to look at some of their stuff without a membership. You just have to hop from site to site. use goole to find websites with info. You can build a free family tree and ivite friends and family to view it at tribalpages.com. It is easy to use and free for a basic tree- and really cheap if you want to upgrade, good luck
