Daughters of the American Revolution?

Is anyone familar with DAR? I have ancestors who helped fight for Independence when America was a young country. I traced back my family tree back. I was told that this organization I could become a part of if I could prove my lineage all the way back. I was just wondering if anyone was familar with this organization. I have researched it out some. Thanks for the help.

1. It's a women's service organization. You may like to belong to a local chapter if their interests, projects, and members are compatible and to your liking, or any other level of chapters.
2. About half of the cemetery listings I find on the US Gen Web sites across the nation were done by DAR members to start with, then updated later. They do a lot of selfless genealogy work. They also sponsor patriotic essay contests and clean up graves of Revolutionary War vets. They tend to be older and conservative, but very polite. You might look for a chapter near you and ask if you could come to a meeting.
