Genetic genealogy or Family Records?

I am a filipino, with a long line of ancestors who came from different places. Both my mother and my father are filipino, but my mom tells me she has more influence from spain and my dad says he has more influence from the chinese( I know because I have the eyes while my cousins don't express the trait). I am a real amatuer at genealogy and I would like to go further to find out who I am. http://asnic.utexas.edu/asnic/countries/philippines/philippines.html (This link talks about filipinos and how we were influenced) I heard that genetic DNA tests (Genetic genealogy) is very useful for finding your roots such as Family Tree DNA The classic way of finding your origins are from Records. However, I don't think I will get that far. I live in the United States, while most of my family members live in the phillipines. I have asked them about any records and they can't help me. So what should I do if I have limited information with records, but could go further with genetic genealog

1. I heard about a DNA test today from my cousin. Something about you take a hair from a male relative and have it ran at a DNA clinic and they can trace your genealogy or something. She said it cost about $100.00. Check on-line I am sure you will find something.
