Where is the safest place to store family photos and heirlooms?
I have a bunch of pictures of my mom and some of her personal artifacts that I'd like to put in the very safest place possible. I rent an apartment, live with roommates, and move around a lot .so I feel weird having these things in my house. I already lost one photo album when a landlord accidentally moved my stuff out early and I don't want it to happen again! I was thinking a bank safety deposit box? Is that a good idea?

- Bank safety deposit box is perfect but if you move from city to city then your best bet is to buy a portable safe. They sell smaller safes for the items that you mentioned. This way those items will always be in your possession and if you're not at home it keeps them safe from your roommates.
- A safety deposit box is a great idea. Or you can have them put on a disc and put them in a fire box that locks
- yes your best bet is to go to the bank and get a safe deposit box. they don't cost much at all to rent.
- The safest place is a safety deposit box or a safe. as suggested. However, I'm a big believer in the idea of having access to those kinds of things, particularly photos, otherwise what's the point in keeping them? I recently put hundreds of family photos in really nice (and expensive!) acid-free, lignin-free albums. First I made copy negs of them AND put them on disc. That way I can always replace them if something bad happens. I would just put a keyed knob on your bedroom door (easy to do yourself) and keep them in there. As far as the landlord-hopefully you got compensation for that, its illegal.
