Have you ever done an Intervention?

My nephew is 28 and addicted to oxycontin, his mother and I have been talking. Because of his addiction he is now in trouble with the law as well, stealing to get money to pay for his pills. I came up with the idea of getting the closest members of the family and friends to do an intervention. He needs to get help, he's either going to end up in jail for a long time or dead. His mother thinks it's a great idea. I've already left a message for Canada Rehab Centre. I'm just wondering if you've ever done one or had one done to you? Is it a good or bad idea? And advice would be appreciated. We want to see him clean and straight, it's so sad what drugs can do to you. Just for the record yesterday was the anniversary of his father's passing 13 years ago. It hit him real hard when it happened and it still bothers him alot. We just care about him and love him and want to get him help. What do you think of the idea of an intervention? He says he wants help but never takes the first step to get it.

  1. Some people it takes a long time for them to hit absolute rock bottom, but when it happens maybe they will see the light! Good for you trying to do an intervention! When an intervention occurs there always has to be ultimatums. I have done an intervention on my boyfriend. I had to offer him ultimatums of seeing his daughter or not in order for him to change. It was really difficult because he was a really good father when he was not using, but it was no longer safe. Just stay strong and good luck!
  2. Definitely a great idea and you are a wonderful Aunt to want to help. Get a Counselor to help with setting up the Intervetion. It will be successful as long as your nephew wants the help.
