How can i trace back my family tree to like a few hundred years?
I know that Oprah Winfrey payed to get a DNA test that traced her roots back to a tribe in Africa. Where can I do that? Is it expensive? Both of my parents were born in Mexico and all I know is that my mom's mom is half Spanish and half French. Her dad's last name is Viruette and her mom's last name is Quintero. I would like to know from what Aztec tribe I came from and what parts of Spain and France.

- find super old people in your fam who are still alive and contact them!! they will love to talk about old stories :)
- Well... Since you are culturally diverse you might need some professional help in going back that far... but if you want to try on your own for a while try www.ancestry.com its cool and FREE!!!! Good luck!!!
- To answer you first question, yes it is very expensive. You can get one done at most dna lab. While I am not sure how it works to prove anything other then you are from a certain area or tribe. There are many websites out there that you can get information for helping you get back 100 years. Here are a couple of them. One is a site with different sites, forms, and area to search. The other is a forum for discussion and folks that will help you find or have the information. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/roots-l/roots-l.html?cj=1&o_xid=0001029688&o_lid=0001029688 http://www.cyndislist.com/
- do a family tree on Ancestry.com You can find more records that way that you would ever know! You need to know names, dates of births and deaths of as many relatives in the past few generations as you can provide. Maiden names, ages and sex of all children. You have to pay to do a tree but it is well worth it!
- it would be difficult if not impossible to trace the exact tribe your family may have come from because modern mexico is so multiethnic and the various tribes have since intermarried. the best way would probably be to trace the area your family hails from and learn about the people who inhabited that region.
