- Sorry, you'll have to do the work, if you want to know the answers to the questions I think you are talking about. DNA testing is usually done on males, because the Y chromosome can be followed back through the male line. MTDNA goes back through the female line, your mother, her mother, etc.
- You are mixing up 2 issues. DNA testing will NOT tell you WHO are in your family tree. It will only tell you the regions of the world you share genetic markers with. Family tree information is done by legal documents, like birth certificates, marriage certificates, death records, census records, cemetery records, wills, court records, land records, church records, etc. And, genealogy research is not as simple as sending off your DNA or typing your name in on a website. If that is the approach you are going to take, you are going to be disappointed.
- http://rwguide.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ Here is a guide to researching your family tree (which means, persons, relatives and records). DNA testing is genetic, meaning, it does NOT SHOW a family tree. If you are interested in real people, go for genealogy. There are thousands of sites that can help with that.
- Your avatar shows you are a female so I will answer using that information: The DNA testing that is done on females will only show results from you to your mother to her mother to her mother, etc. Only your female relatives on up. And then it will give you one set of results that you would have to match exactly with another person to possibly be related to them, hoping that someone out there has taken the female test too. Either a female or male can do this test so you or a brother would get the same result For the male side, you would have to get your father, brother, uncle, cousin or someone who is blood related to your father. The male side has to be a male taking the test. This will also give you a set of results but the markers can be off on one or two spots and you would still be related, because of mutations along the way. Then putting these results in the online databases, you would search for matches. You will probably get some and then you would have to get with them to see where your line and their line connects. It's possible for them to have a same ancestor as you but 2 or 300 years ago. So if everyone in the world took the DNA test, our research would go alot faster and smoother, but there isn't one. There are companies like FTDNA that has so many testers that their database is huge and you are likely to find someone that matches your male side DNA. With that, the best way to get your tree is to find a relative that has done the research or start yourself.
