do you know any Volciks? (family genealogy research)?
I am looking for Volciks,Walciks and any one who has info on the family genealogy. My grand mothers maiden name was walcik which was her emigrant grandfathers Christian name for Volcik. they changed the spelling when the cam to America and I have traced it as far back as Galveston Texas where the family had a few records from their immigration from the czech republic but have no further info. this part of my heritage is the only one I look like, can relate to and would like to better understand so if you can help please do.

- Wasn't Attila the Hun a Walcik ????
- Maybe check through the family trees submitted to Rootsweb and see if there are any connections to you and contact the submitter. Good luck. http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=Search&includedb=&lang=en&ti=&surname=volcik&stype=Exact&given=&bplace=&byear=&brange=0&dplace=&dyear=&drange=0&mplace=&myear=&mrange=0&father=&mother=&spouse=&skipdb=&period=All&submit.x=Search
- the latest federal census is 1930 on the net. Start with that...or start with obituaries and look up those people on ancestry.com. you can get a free two week membership if you have a credit card to secure that (no payment required). But when you go in there make sure you have all your questions written down so that you can do a lot of research while in there. Btw when you have the ellisisland.org records at hand sometimes there was a second page that would say on there who they left behind in the old country and who they were visiting in the new country (USA) and that provides leads as well. When people came into the USA thru Texas usually the ship stopped at NY first so you could have relatives there as well.
- Try EllisIsland.org, CastleGardens.org, RootsWeb.com, LDS.com or MyHeritage.com. All are free sites. If you are looking for LIVING relatives, you might try the FREE Public Records websites called PeopleData.com, Zabasearch, google the name or perhaps try the USCensus records or sign up for the FREE 14-day trial of Ancestry.com (but unless you are going to buy a membership, you might cancel it before the 14 days are up so they don't hound you to death to join...You can also find free access to parts of Ancestry.com at your local library, if your local branch has internet access). I'm sure there are probably alot of other FREE sites (but do be careful because some sites that were once FREE will have a brief summary in your web browser promising information, but when you do access them and sign up, they have a $2+ fee and ask for credit card info). You might also look for and talk to some of the older family members in your family to see if they can share some info on your family's heritage such as giving you names or any other helpful and useful clues to the missing puzzle. MAYBE SOMEONE ELSE CAN PROVIDE A BETTER LIST OF ACTUAL FREE SITES WITHOUT HIDDEN COST OR OBLIGATION??? Hope this helps!
- Have you tried the Czechoslovakian Genealogical Society to see if they can assist in pointing you towards original records/ The last address I have (several years ago) was: Czechoslovak Genealogical Society, PO Box 16225, St. Paul, MN 55116, USA
