What is the most appropriate program to use in assembling a family tree down to the 6th generation?

I've volunteered to prepare the family tree for our reunion in January 2010. I'd like to give out the printouts as a present to my kins. May I request suggestions on the most appropriate computer program that I can use to facilitate preparation of the family tree with names and pictures (thumbnails). Please help me.

  1. Microsoft office word is very good for that. I have the 2007 version of it and it works great. Unless you already have it, a link (if you don't want to pay $150) for the torrent file of it is http://www.torrentz.com/c24d57632e41f1942c44d15bbed7cff5b72d9013 to download you need to get bit torrent first.
  2. Family Tree Maker and Roots Magic will both do it. I don't know if PAF will print thumbnails in its reports. FTM is about $39, RM $29 (Both US$). PAF is free, from the Mormons. I know RM will go to at least 45 generations. I suspect FTM will too. Both have extensive report utilities. I like RM much better. You can get a 14 or 30 day free trial for both. You can download PAF from http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp for free, so a free trial would be moot.
