How far back have you been able to research your family history?

Those outside America, if you don't mind list what country you are from. Many Americans are very interested in their family genealogy and have done extensive research. Our heritages take us back to Germany, England, Ireland, Italy, Africa and other countries. Some of us are able to trace back to the 1600s. I wondered how many years back you or someone in your family has documented your history. Are there any interesting family members? This question is for all, but I am really curious about those that are not American citizens and live in other countries. How many years back your research took you. Actually, Nicholas my question states it is for all to answer. :)

  1. I haven't even started yet, but I will someday my son, was talking about it so maybe he will do it.
  2. I have only been able to trace back some of my American ancestors. Have no clue where to begin tracing back to other countries. I have been told that many Scottish settled in this area and my verbal accent does reflect a lot of Scottish terms.
  3. USA America 1636 . Wales, 1300s
  4. i know u wanted answers from outside america, but mine was so very far back,i thought u might want to hear it-the 1100's,england.
  5. I could only go back as far as my great grandfather and mother.
  6. i found an old article about a year ago in an old blackwell ok. paper where my gt. grandfather (my grandmother on my mothers sides father) was ivestigated for murdering a merchant he had issue with by shooting him in an ambush but was let go after 5 days for lack of evidence.this was around 1904 and she was born that year.in indian territory, now OK...my grandmother didn't speak of him often but by the way she was raised and married off i don't think he was a nice man.
  7. to the civil war
  8. My father's father's family...English, back to 1320, most were titled nobility. Through this side we are related to William Penn (an ancestor married William Penn and was his first wife). My father's mother's side...France, 1100's, they were Barons from the Burgundy region and later became Huguenots. Another branch of the family were French Canadians and another branch of that family were Dutch and another branch Belgium Flemish. My mother's father's side and my mother's mother's side were related to each other. My mother's parents were distant cousins and both had the same surname. Scotch-Irish potato farmers, back to 1606.
  9. I'm English, fore fathers traced from earliest to present . Scandinavian (Denmark), New Zealand and France.
  10. My great grandparents were from Saxony in Germany and were members of a minority of people called Wends or Sorbs. I know that my paternal grandmother was baptized in a church located in Lobeau in 1880 or 1881. I would love to kneel and pray in this church before I cross the great divide. I am hesitant to research my family history back too far as I fear my family might be the last family on earth that straightened their backs and chose to walk erect.
  11. Not far, I usually hit a brick wall
  12. I have been able to research back five generations, but need to go back three or four generations to the first of my surname in America from England, Scotland, and Wales.
