How do I print out a complete family tree on Ancestry?

I have over 2,000 people on a family tree on Ancestry and on Family Tree Maker 2009. I want to print out everything, not just a scrap book in My Canvas or just my family. I would like to download it to a PDF file so I can print it or print if right off of Ancestry or Family Tree Maker 2009.

  1. Did you look in the help section? There are instructions there.
  2. Clarifying definitions. Ancestry.com is a website, and family tree maker is a program. Assuming the file owner has that enabled, you download the file itself from ancestry as a GEDCOM file (which is readable by any genealogy program). Gedcom is like a "universal" language to bridge programs. You still need a program installed to your system to read the file. Once you have the file into the program, use their options for printing reports. I am not sure of your goal in using pdf.. the standard for printed reports is text, which can be edited, and is more easily read. The OPTIONS for printing usually have to do with who is selected... ie, desc. of a certain person; ancestors of a chosen person, so forth. Because genealogy is focused on HOW persons are connected.. it is not geared to printing "everyone" in a database... when databases can include unlinked people. FRIENDLY TIP.. years of experience, UNLESS THIS HAPPENS TO BE YOUR PERSONAL RESEARCH.. keep the download apart from your own research files, as a distinct file. When you use research from online sources.. you do not always know the source of the data. The online file is NOT A SOURCE. It is someone else's conclusions, and without verification, you cannot be sure that the data is correct. Sources are the original places which were used to state that so and so is in fact the child of so and so. I have learned the hard way.. that merging someone else's file into my own, is asking for huge problems.. when I find later that there are 2 entries (for example) for a same person... with different conclusions, and after merging the file.. I was not able to recognize my own entry from the "alien" entry, much less why one record was/ was not accurate. 2000 persons seems great.. unless you later learn that the research was flaky. Keeping it as a separate reference file allows me to use data ONLY after I have satisfied myself that it is accurate.
  3. I know there used to be some old programs that did that but heard ancestry.com has updated that. So someone got me a familytreemaker program for christmas and thinking I'd have a nice fully printable tree when I was done I took great pains to put on 600 into a family tree only to find out that ancestry.com and their agencies can only print out what we also see on the screen and they aren't able to print out a nice huge tree for us. Now I don't know what to do to get what I want. What I had seen on some Gen program appeared to be like a pdf file but they were French I believe. I write them and get no answer.
