Scottish family tree research help?

I'm trying to trace my family tree, could do with some help in what websites to use. My wife is English but I am Scottish. I have managed to trace my wife's family back several generations using the free BMD website, but this only covers England and Wales, is there an equivelant site for Scottish records?

1. http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ there is this website but i think u have to pay for it im not sure i too have scottish ancesters in my tree. but u could have a look at this site or search for free scottich ancestry sites in google or yahoo.
2. Ancestry has the transcriptions (not the images) for all the census 1841-1901 (subscription site) That Scotland's people's site is pretty good - it does cost money, but I thought it was worth it, for example the death certs have more info than the English ones and you can download them online for a relatively small fee.
