Picture this: A Family Room 16x24 you enter from the center of?

the 24 length. Straight ahead is a fireplace, wall sconces on either side. To your immediate left there is a small bar area, with 6' bar and 4 barstools. There is a curved soffitt over this area with two pendant lights coming down from the soffitt and illuminating the bar. The there is a slider on the right wall to the backyard. In the far right corner is a dining area. The far left wall is an entertainment wall with all necessary electronic equipment and various media: CDs, DVDs, Videos, Books, Records. . Also located somewhere in the room but subject to discussion are a couch, a coffee table, a drum set, and various other instruments and recording gear. The walls are textured. SO ! Tell me what walls you would paint and what colors. Where would you place other items ? It's all open to discussion. We can even change the color of furniture. The room is illuminated with six MR-16 can lights equally spaced.

  1. The rage this year is Tuscan colors. Warm butter cream with cranberry or rich merlot/maroons for contrast. For accent black iron. Throw in some splashes of wine colored finishings and top it off with lovely wood and you've got a earthy feel that says "welcome friend, how bout a glass of wine?"
  2. Yo BBQ - you have almost the same room dimensions as we have... I hate it!! having that fire place in the center of the room really does screw things up for us. but it sounds like you are making things work. I wish I could help you with some input but I am in the same quandry... even more lost than you are. PS - I must say that Goddess has some GREAT stuff there. Good going Goddess!! I wish I had half of the ideas AND the energy to pull it all off! Good luck me amiga :)
  3. Hmmmmmmmm, having been in the room, and knowing that it is pretty well lit during the day, I would say that you do the whole "rag" thing on the walls. That means, first paint it a deep jewel green, then taking rags, or I even heard that wadded up plastic bags work! and "sponging" maybe grey or silver paint over the still~moist green. I know that you babes play music in there, yet it is also your entertaining room, so it needs a comfy, "lounge bar" feel to it. What I did in my daughters room, and that I LOVE was to paint it very deep plum, then took a few cans of spray glitter, very LIGHT sheen, and sprayed that on all the walls. It comes out gorgeous and NOT bright glittery, just shimmery and magical. I LOVE that your fireplace is in the middle, It gives you a landing spot for the couch and coffee table, with chairs on either side. Then you have options for entertaining on both sides of the room with a connection in the center for hangin'. Me personally? I'd have the bar next to the slider for those summer parties, easier access to outside. I have no curtains on my slider so I can view the outdoors, but I DO have black sheers pulled off to either side for accent as I have a black suede couch and the walls are painted pistachio ("sage" green) to make the room look larger and brighter. So, for color, I always say that your main hangout should be pleasing to the eye. What about that cobalt blue on all the walls and a pale grey ceiling??? With dark grey high gloss trim it would be stunning! Or pale grey trim and very pale blue on the ceiling? Then pretty much any slip covers would work for the furniture, and blue is calming, yet can rock if it has to! HAHAHHA! I'd keep all the drums and stuff to the rear wall on the far left. If you are having a fire and hanging out, do you really want to look at that? maybe some really cool fabric screens to hide stuff when you want it out of sight, and you could MAKE those! Or with glass panels~ do you have access to a sand blaster? I have an idea that you would LOVE and you could do it cheap!!!! Let me know! XZXZ
