Is it ok that I go to the Urgent Care for this? Should I look for a Family Doctor?

I am currently a student in college. I have been sexually active with two people previously. 2 weeks ago I noticed what looks like a herpes outbreak on the shaft of my penis. I did not pay it much attention at first, It looked like I had a small cut in the region.. it has not increased in size, but it has yet to go away. I don't want to go to student health because I don't want this to be in my medical records here if it proves to be a herpes outbreak. (might be a wart) Would it be ok that I go to a urgent care center, or should I look for a general doctor to go to? Not to be gross, but I have never had sex/oral sex.. just touching.. but I know you can get it from genital contact.. Thanks in advance for anyone's help!

  1. Go to a Dr. Urgent care is for emergencies and this is not an emergency.
  2. If it's that serious then I recommend you should, specially if you have insurance.
  3. go to a walk-in clinic, (is that what urgent care is?) anyways that would be fine. they will diagnose you and tell you if you need follow-ups, then you can find a doc
  4. I think you should consult your doctor or any doctor for that matter, he/she will forward you onto another doctor or give you medication if the matter is serious etc. Hope i helped and everything goes well.
  5. Don't wait any longer.. you should go tomorrow morning to an urgent care center or any doctor cause the longer you wait might not be any good.
  6. I think its best if you go to a family doctor for this FIRST. Because you want to seek their opinions on the matter and you would want to check if this problem really needs any medical attention && actually see if what your saying is a PROBLEM OR NOT. Then if just follow what you family doctor says next.
  7. Did you rub urs on hers? Otherwise just hand touching probably wouldn't transmit anything unless her hands were covered in infected female juices. It might be a little rash from irritation. Maybe tugging it too hard or you might have went pee behind a bush when drunk sometime and rubbed it on something.... Don't worry, just relax and give it a month or so... If it doesnt get any better or gets worse just go see your family doctor you've been seeing for all your shots growing up as a kid. He has done a genital examination on you before so you shouldn't be to worried. Most likely its just from friction . Maybe try some vaseline or lotion +D
  8. Get it checked out, so you can know what's going on. I don't see the problem with going to a Urgent Care center. But if you are more comfortable, find a family doctor. It's up to you. Some people don't "care" enough to see a doc about it. Good luck.
  9. If you want it to be confidential then you should go to your local health department during their STD clinic hours. People go there if they have no insurance and in my city you pay $10. They wont hassle you for personal information aside from your name if that. I did that and they were able to diagnose me with something that wasn't even an STD and gave me free medication for it. The downfall to having things not in your records: you can't have that information to look back on. Things like this can be VERY important in the decisions doctors come to when diagnosing you for something (as if you've had an incident of ___ it increases the chance you will get ___ sort of deal). You might be able to ask for a written diagnosis from them for your own records, but I think you should just bear up and go to see a doctor. If you go to Urgent Care it will be put in your records anyway.
  10. Go to your general doctor. In the ER the major life threatening cases go first. ABC, airway, breathing, circulation(heart). So going there expect hours wait time. But see your MD soon because some STDs can cause sterility. And you must stop sexual contact while you have the lesion.
  11. First of all - no matter where you go, your medical record will be kept confidential, with the exception of your insurance company. So you should feel confident that you can go to Student Health & not have your medical details talked about with other students. People get fired nowadays for blabbing. And trust me, no doctor or nurse will lift an eyebrow about your problem. If you just aren't comfortable with that option, I would look for a "docs in a box" type practice. Urgent care is usually one step down from an ER & that wouldn't be appropriate for your problem. But a docs in a box would work for you. They are set up for more minor health problems. You can usually find them in places like hotels (if you live near a resort area) or shopping malls or big box stores.
  12. If it's not painful, then it's (probably) not herpes type 2. However, it could potentially be herpes type 1. Although this is typically associated with cold sores, it can be transferred to the genitals (just with skin contact). When a herpes type 1 outbreak occurs on the genitals, it is usually not as severe or as painful. It could also be another STD, such as syphilis, or potentially a genital wart, as you mentioned. (However, genital warts are usually the same color as the skin or whitish.) There should be a sexual/personal health clinic close-by (if you're located in a relatively well-populated area - just look in the yellow pages or online), or you could also go to your local county health department for assistance. This is not an "urgent care" issue, and you would likely end up waiting an eternity as such a clinic. Go to one of the resources mentioned above for assistance ... and be more selective about your sexual partners, and use condoms in the future.
  13. I think you should soak in a warm bath. In that aria it it moist and dark not a great situation for healing. If you can just sit around for a few hours naked so that the air can get to it afterwords try applying baby rash ointment, trust me it is ment for this kind of thing. try desitin it is white and messy but you will be ok. Do this once a day for 2 days if it starts looking better its not an std. maybe she/he got a lil to rough and their nail cut you a bit and it has a miner infection. if it does not go away than see a dr.
