- There are tons of websites to research ancestry, but contrary to what some will tell you, the free sites aren't much help. You have to join a pay site to get any helpful information. Ancestry.com is a good site and many public libraries have free access to this site. You can get on a computer at the library, or if you have a laptop you can bring it with you.
- the online sites can only go so far... what helped me was talked to a genealogist and going with DNA testing. It gave me the best results over any online service I tried. The company I used has genealogists you can talk to and "the world's largest collection of DNA samples correlated with genealogical information spanning 170 countries" if you call them at this number you can go through their 10 minute consultation and decide if its for you: 1-888-894-7063 Their hours are Mon-Fri, 8 am to 5 pm, mountain time if you want it done right give them a call!
