Heirloom tomatoes. Anybody know anything about using them?

I've seen them in the grocery stores, but they look kind of gross so I was wondering which are good for what.

  1. Most heirloom tomatoes are good for putting in tossed salads or slicing and making tomato sandwiches or for making tomato salads with vinaigrette dressing and fresh buffalo mozzarella cheese.
  2. They look gross to you because they haven't been genetically altered like those perfectly red, round ones. However, they taste much better. Use them for anything you'd use a regular tomato for.
  3. They are great. There's a reason they are more expensive, it's because they taste better. They are great simply tossed with red onions, balsamic vinegarette and shaved parm cheese. I also like to make a panini with fresh mozz cheese, pesto and the tomatoes. It really is the best grilled cheese ever. If you make thin slices it's great for a party.
