- You can download a basic program to create a family tree from www.familysearch.org
- Excellent suggestion but I would like to warn you if your running program is Vista Windows that Paf has shown to be incompatible with Vista Windows.
- The family tree program from familysearch.org is a good program (version 4) and works fine with Windows Vista. I haven't had any problems running it and I use it everyday (4-6 hours a day). This is a very easy program to use, they also have a version 5, but I find it to be a little complicated at times. You could also try Legacy standard edition (free download at legacyfamilytree.com), it's a little fancier than the PAF program and a little more difficult to work with. I use both programs, the PAF 4 from FamilySearch for my main program and the Legacy program to correct and merge names of towns. http://www.familysearch.org http://www.legacyfamilytree.com
- PAF does not generate a family tree any more that "Word" generates a term paper. It lets YOU generate one by research. If that is what you mean to do, get PAF. If you want to enter a name or two and have the machine generate 12 generations of family tree, you need a different program. It hasn“t been written yet. "Generate" usually means the machine does the work. If you need 4,000,000 random numbers, you use a random number generator. If you need a 24-character password, there are programs that will generate one for you. If you meant a family tree program, not generator, I apologize for quibbling.
- You can go to LDS.org and they have a free family tree that you can download. You don't have to be Mormon to get this. They also have family search where you can look for records for free. You never know what you may find. If you need help let me know and I'll see what I can do for you but I would need to have the information you do have. I have ancestry.com and I will look there for you if you want me to. On lds.org you will see where it says family history and temples. Go on it and you will have different places you can go to there, you can go on any of those and they will help you in different areas. They have one of the largest family history sites. Or you can just go to Family Search.org to see if they have any records on that site that would help you. T Webster
- I am not sure what you mean. Information in family trees on ANY website, free or paid, should not be taken as absolute fact. They are submitted by folks like you and me and mostly not documented. Even when you see the same information repeatedly by many different subscribers, that is no guarantee at all it is correct. A lot of people copy without verifying. The information can be valuable as CLUES as to where to get the documentation.
- Family trees are graphical maps for tracing one's genealogy. Tribal Junction is a site which helps you create your family tree for free. Here's the link: http://www.tribaljunction.com/creating-family-trees.php
