Where can I find a free family tree maker type application?!?!?

Where can I find a free family tree maker type application?!?! I'm not really looking for one of those online only type things. Any ones that you'd recommend, etc. Thanx!

PAF 5 is the best I've found. It's available from the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints.
Like the previous answerer said, PAF 5 is supposed to be good, and it's free! Here's a link: I use Family Tree Maker myself, but it costs about $40 I think.

PAF is the most widely used free program. Go to http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/default.asp Click on "Order/Download Products" Follow th elink (it is about 400 characters long) to select PAF and the user manual. http://genforum.genealogy.com/paf/ is a forum devoted to it. Use the Search box to search for questions you have. Someone else has probably posted the same Q and had it answered.
If PAF is the best you've used, you haven't looked around much. Go straight to http://www.legacyfamilytree.com and download the free version of Legacy. It blows the socks off PAF. The free version should do everything you want. There is also a deluxe version available to purchase, but the free version isn't crippled in any way. It just lacks some power-user features.
I too will chime in for PAF (free at http://www.familysearch.org). It works very well, especially if you're just getting started. I've tried Legacy but was less impressed. The only downside to PAf is that it probably won't be actively developed over the next few years, while commercial programs will be. Good luck, Dave -- http://www.familyinhistory.com
I don't know if I am permitted to do this on this site but I have FTM16.Never used. I will send it to you FREE.I will even pay postage. I didn't like it after I got it. I will send it to you only if we contact by E-mail. But I need to know first if I am doing something unethical by doing so on this site as I do not want to lose my priviledges.
