Is there a free site for looking up your family tree I mean free to look up the actual images of births?

Since Ancestory and all the others are charging us to research our family trees, I did wonder if there are any sites that let you research images as well as dates for free because I think it is expensive now.

  1. http://www.usgenweb.net/
  2. There's nothing like that in the UK, you can search for the details of a birth/marriage/death but you cant actually see the certificates on line. Ancestry.co.uk have the free bmd section and it's really good.
  3. ancestry.com
  4. though ancestry does charge they do give you the opportunity to try it for 14 days free, some libraries will allow you get access to the census for free if you are a patron, i know that www.heritagequestonline.com does but you have to get a code from your library.
  5. Some hospitals offer baby photos on their websites, but that may only be a history of the newborns from the last few years. I don't think you can look up baby pics from a long, long time ago.
  6. In over 25 yrs, I have never paid any web site to research my family history. There are MANY ways to get information... research was 'available' long before the internet or ancestry.com. As for birth certificates in particular... in GENERAL, access to the actual document is limited, since it is too open to misuse. Persons who have a legitimate authority to have those items can get them from the state. Keep in mind that fees for such documents are a source of income for the state, so it is not too likely they will release that in the near future.
  7. Try these sites: www.usgenweb.org.They have a listing of all the states. Some of the material can be dated, but its still a great site. www.rootsweb. com The best free site on the web. www.familysearch. com The message boards are also a great place to check as well. Many states do have various vital record images on-line. Two I've worked on extensively are Maine and W. Virginia. There are more coming on-line everyday. I think the best place to start is rootsweb. I've been doing family research for close to 20 years, and that's the site I always check for new info.
  8. i have searched' but they all want money, so what i did was go to the registery office of my grandparents and paid£7.00 for a birth certificate and went from there.it is easy if you have an relative who has died and you know where they were reistered for death and you can find out a good bit as this will give you where they lived and when they died.
